It's coming along OK. I went with some lighter plywood stiffened with oak on the seat. I'll use a prussic on the tether, But I picked up for only $20 a Ropeman locally that I found on Facebook Marketplace by searching for climbing gear. It's as new with no apparent wear. It will be part of my lineman's belt.

I appreciate the steel connector is NOT a carabiner. I prefer to not use the steel connector and instead a locking carabiner alone with the Ropeman. I picked up a new carabiner today since the one I had that fits the Ropeman well has some thread problems. Should be starting out some practice sits later this week. More pics then.

My Hunter Specialties safety harness has loops for a linemen's belt so it will be my safety harness to start. I'll invest in a rock climbing harness later. My first sit will likely be using a ladder stand that's already in place to get aloft, and then hanging the saddle/seat above it. My shooting position will be a few feet higher. I can hide behind the trunk, regardless how deer come by. I can get saddle hunting experience and develop my climbing method preferences along the way.RopemanCarabiner.jpg

Welcome from coastal NC! Whatever you do just make sure you do it safely and we are glad to have you! We need pics of any diy projects that's like candy to us!!!!!lol

Welcome from SE Wisconsin. Practice at ground level and test all equipment there too. Get the kinks out there then move up.

I also started with a preachers seat but I just could not get that comfy. I made it too big and bulky. I went to the saddle but I'm thinking about trying a smaller version of the preachers seat again.

Welcome from western IL.

Maybe it is time for another Lincoln Land roundup!! @Phopkins & @rakbowhunter what do ya think? Maybe Peoria or Bloomington and pull down some up-stateres (chi town) and the QC!! Or over here (Forgottonia) at Arglye and pull over some Tri-State residents from IA and MO!!

Wouldn't work for me this fall. Work and hunt schedules leave no time but am seriously considering it next spring. Would March or May be the better month?
