New PA tagging requirements

PA has some of the worst hunting laws in the country. The doe tag system is scam to make everyone panic buy all the tags for sale. Honest hunters only end up with one doe tag for their favorite area while a-holes sign up everyone in their family to get the tags first round. They make millions off this tag system so it will never stop. They went through this huge fight for years about legalizing Sunday hunting and the end result was 3 Sunday’s for the whole season. They also close deer hunting for a week during the November rut, usually the third week. Sorry for the venting, just tired of all their nonsense.
Well, here is how YOU can change all of the things you just vented about. Call your state representative and voice your opinion. If your representative has a history of voting these things down, vote them out, because almost everything you vented about is controlled by politicians, not the PAGC.

Sorry man, but I've lived and recreated in alot of places in my life, and PA has some of the most access opportunities available for free, i.e. public land. Conversely, with all of the aforementioned opportunities, we have some of, if not the lowest license fees around. So, TONS of public land, very liberal license fees, and hunting opportunities almost year round. Also, every WMU except for 2B & 5D have DMAP tags available the second licenses go on sale. Some WMUs still have a TON of DMAP tags left, so there is that.

For all of you guys who think its complicated, as a guy who has lived and hunted in multiple states, its actually pretty simple, no more complicated than any other state.

Just bought my non resident PA license last night and I found it odd that I didn't need to show any proof that I possess a hunting license from my home state (NY) or that I have completed a bow hunter safety course. When I went for my first non res hunting license for Connecticut a few years ago I needed to send them my bowhunter safety certificate before they would sell the license. I guess PA still believes in people's honesty.

PA's requirements seem pretty simple to me, easy to comply when you know what they want.

I don’t understand all the negativity. I think PA is a pretty awesome state for recreation, hunting, and fishing nor do I find it complicated to get a hunting license etc.

My state rep is in NY...I really look forward to all my hunts in PA.

I agree PA lic

What part of PA will you be hunting?

NW PA (National Forest) since childhood. Its nostalgic. Bounced around and missed quite a few years. Got back there two years ago and had a ball, then missed last year due to the pandemic. It's up in the air this year.

Nice! Yeah the big hardwoods of PA is really nice. We have a cabin in Potter Co. which is surrounded with beautiful State Forrest

McKean and Warren mostly for me. I was too young when there was a group that had a cabin and hunted in Tioga. My Dad loved to tell stories about the hunting there.

As an FYI, bowhunter education is not a requirement here, just recommended.

Does that include DMAP? I typically only get 2 regular doe tags then get 6 DMAP and never had an issue.

Ok that makes sense. I know they cost a little more but they are convenient to buy when buying my license online. Also, the govt. land I hunt here locally issues them and its so easy to obtain them. I would never shoot than many deer in a year for myself personally but its nice to have options on the land I hunt throughout the state. Also, friends and family also want some burger anyways so it gives me an excuse to go out in late season after some doe!

Thanks for reminding me to get my license to send for the doe tags. I don't think Montgomery county will run out if people can only get 6 at a time.
