No need to worry about limbs hitting branches. I know...I know....the hickory creek mini is awesome and better.

RAVIN INTRODUCES FIRST EVER TAKEDOWN-STYLE CROSSBOW
Seriously Small and Extra Wicked: Introducing the Ravin R18
Ravin turns traditional crossbow design on its head with the R18, using the new VertiCoil Cam System to compact a full-power crossbow into a weapon a fraction of the size of all others. Unlike any other crossbow in history, the takedown-style R18 is a narrow 4.75 inches wide only 18 inches long without its detachable stock configuration.

The proprietary VertiCoil Cam System that powers the R18 takes already legendary HeliCoil Technology and—literally—cranks it up. This system rotates the R18’s ultra-small cams 720 degrees, wrapping the crossbow string and cables around the cam and cam axle, resulting in an astounding axle-to-axle height of just 1.3 inches when cocked.

“Every year we identify and obliterate boundaries no one else in our industry sees,” says Doug Guthrie, New Product Development at Ravin. “The R18 is a unique takedown-style crossbow and has the latest groundbreaking and innovative technology from Ravin.”

Using the VertiCoil Cam System, the limbs of the R18 expand vertically instead of horizontally for an axle-to-axle height of just 1.3 inches when fully cocked or 4.1 inches uncocked. The 6-pound R18 features a detachable stock with an integrated removable quiver system, built-in cocking mechanism for an easy draw, anti-dry fire/auto safety and built in sling mounts. Inside the box contains the new Ravin 3-Dot Reflex Sight for an easy target acquisition, three 350-grain 16-inch R18 arrows with field points and a removable draw handle. The R18 is black and will be available Spring 2021 with an MSRP of $1,549.99.

That looks nice but it is not NY friendly since the cam to cam distance is too small and it can easily be carried concealed. :)
Strange but true.

If your string breaks it looks like those limbs will snap back and slap you in the forehead.
I don’t think there’s a scenario that I would want my head near any crossbow if a limb were to fail. The new r500 is pretty sweet also.

The thing I like is that the big companies are looking at making a more compact, stealthy, vertical crossbow for tight quarters. People can talk about recurve, traditional, compound, crossbow, ml, and the rifle game. My game is putting meat in the freezer.

At first glance I thought this was the new Bacardi Xbow. Had never noticed Ravin’s logo before, since NY is one place I hunt and they’ve never made a legal bow for hunting there.

At 1500ish that’s a pretty sweet package, with high end crossbows now creeping to 3-4K. For Ravin, it’s value priced, and to me, the weight and size make it preferable over more expensive models.

Ravin is marketing the R500 as “meet your next rifle.” Crazy. Electric cocking as well. They are the leading innovators in crossbows right now for sure. Should compete well against the 4K bow from 10pt/garmin, in that limited consumer market.

Same power as hickory creek.

interesting to be straying from the speed race.

I’d be very interested if I could use my own arrows and it’s quiet.

Bumping this thread. Anybody shoot one yet?

Far as I know, they are still not available, despite Ravin marketing them for at least 2 years or more. A lot of bugs to work out, presumably, and I know that it got back-burnered for a year or more while Ravin was trying to sort out all the delays with the R500...which it is still struggling with. I wouldn't be surprised if the R18 never makes it to market, to be honest.

Dang. Doesn't sound all that different from 5-6 years ago when we were selling them at the shop I worked at. I hoped by now they'd have worked the kinks out

Looks like they’re available now.
