new xop sticks

Just glad if I want sticks like that I don't have to give my money to a company that uses it's customers as test animals with their "game changing" untested under built hype.

if they weigh under 1.5 lbs, they'll sell a lot of them if they aren't crazy expensive

the step/standoff seems like it has more metal than the tethrd and of course we don't know what the tube is made of yet

you think XOP did more testing than Tethrd.. I get people's frustration with Tethrd but sheesh.. at least they're trying to break some new ground.. I'd never pay what Tethrd is asking for their One Sticks, but they're innovating more than any other company I've seen.. that's not bashing other companies but the Predator paved the way for other similar designs, and now the one stick is going to do something similar....

they've definitely helped reinvigorate saddle hunting, but you gotta know some history

people were making stands exactly like the predator in basic concept for quite a while prior to the predator release

i wasn't yet a member here, but people were sharing their designs here

it's basically an inverted hang on stand seat with the post chopped and a stand off put on it

the tethrd one stick basic design was developed here by a member not associated with tethrd and i hope he was compensated (tethrd crew were all over his thread complimenting the idea and then the one stick came out and it is so similar that there is zero chance it is a coincidence)

Yes that seems to be true, but it was completely public knowledge and the post said DIY, I’m not “Doing It Yourself” making my own climbing stick and neither is 99% of the people on this form, so Tethrd brought that to the public table and made those available to people like me.
As far as the Predator platform, same deal, who else was making and selling a lightweight saddle platform with TMA testing that has a warranty and is available to the public?
They may have got ideas from people on this forum and spent $$$$$$ to make those products available to people who don’t have the time, skill or supplies to make these products .
If the guy who invented the saddle platform with a LONE WOLF stand seat, LONE WOLF tube, LONE WOLF versa strap, and a LONE WOLF batwing bracket didn’t want a company to build it ,he should have never posted pics on here.
Either way Tethrd’s designed their own product from a Idea just like EVERYTHING else in this world, but they put up the $$$$$$ to make a commercial products and SET THE SADDLE HUNTING WORLD ON FIRE which has brought amazing products from them AND all the other companies we see on the market today.

People can hate Tethrd, but they made products available that would have never been available to the public unless you wanted to DIY.
Let’s face it, because of Tethrd’s designs and products over the last few years, think of all the companies that have started and all the things that have come to the market and are coming this
year and years to follow.

Yep. And the original “saddle platform” was actually the Lone Wolf Assassin designed as far as I know by LWCG’s Brad Kuhnert (and now manufactured by Novix as the Trophyline Mission after a little sexy upgrading), which they stopped making for a number of years leading to homies cutting seats off their Lone Wolf stands to try and replicate the vibe of the Assassin. The Predator is basically a Lone Wolf seat with some edges and teeth.
My own history may be a bit off…there’s also an old 90-degree tree seat I’ve seen @Nutterbuster messing with, dunno the name of top of my head or if it was originally for saddle use but guys here like it for nostalgia.
Don’t get me wrong: I own a Gen2 Predator that I like fairly well, I use Tethrd accessories because I really like some of their designs and weight reduction options, and overall I think their hearts were in the right places to start out. But In a nutshell, the Predator was innovated after much innovation. Can’t give Tethrd all the credit for that, although they deserve plenty for reinvigorating the market. And innovation does not excuse recalls for literally every version of their hardware since the Gen1 Predator. Kinda taints the innovative spirit if you’re always in product trials and using your customers as chum.

The Lone Wolf Assassin, which came out in the early part of the 2000s and was off-market by 2013 or earlier because “nobody hunted with that kind of harness” back then, was the original, TMA-tested, commercially available saddle platform. It is now sold as the Trophyline Mission (basically) and was designed by Brad Kuhnert (as in the LWCG Ambush platform, almost the same design as the LW Assassin and Trophyline Mission). Garret Prahl, who is largely responsible for the Predator, would be the first to admit that he was aware of and influenced by THIS design prior to the Predator’s manufacturing and release.

It's hard to tell with the quick cut aways but it looks like they addressed some of the things peeps didn't like about tether1
Bolt vs roll pin and the button looks beefy but hard to see how it attached...was that a clamping bracket with cinch bolt? I couldn't tell

I don’t think they need to break 1.5 pounds but if they’re under 2 they’ll Deffinately sell well just for the stick/step design and the stow away system. I’m not a weight snob but I do really the the one sticks. (I don’t have them but I have buddies that do) the step design is superior to a lot on them in my opinion and yes companies have attempted to mimic it but I haven’t seen one feel the same yet

On the topic of the XOP sticks specifically, how do they stack? I kinda like in the video they showed a rope mod, cam strap, and buckle-less strap attachments (or at least it appeared that way). Short sticks are not really my style but I like XOP’s long sticks and if these stack as cleanly as those, they are onto something. It almost looked like a magnetic attachment…am I wrong? Were those shiny buffer pieces just buffers? All very mysterious.

They both use a round tube, and they are both climbing sticks that's where the similarities seem to end for me. Hope they come out at a decent enough weight to give the third some competition, I don't think anyone needs me to repeat my opinion on that POS company.

This is all about the guy reaponsible for a Lone Wolf style saddle platform.

I believe the treesuit platform was earlier (and the first commercially?). But, my initial interest in saddle hunting really came from seeing the Assassin in stores and online.

However, the Assassin didn't catch fire and came off the market after a few years.

What really changed the game is how internet advanced. With improved connectivity, elevated mobile hunting (not just saddlehunting) exposure grew, and ideas were had and shared.

In the absence of commercial offering of the Assassin, Klemz designed the LW seat style platform. Word spread. At some point Ernie Power made some adaptations and began selling Klemz kits, which kind of puts things in perspective imo.

Then (I'm not sure if it was Ernie first or someone else) cut down LW treestand platforms came to be. (Ernie definitely posted on his build..the geometric commonality with the Predator is obvious).

Probably AH marketing saddles in 2012 helped things grow, as well.

But SH.com was and remains pivotal to the story and is where Ernie's cottage industry grew into a collaboration and eventually Tethrd.

To bring it back around, the ONE sticks are clearly inspired by Sandor27's build and even some of the design features not employed by Sandor27 are refinements of things from this forum.

That's not to take anything away from the folks at Tethrd, just to contextualize this current offering from XOP.
