I love my Predator 1. I'll probably try a Pred 2 before next season.
The size isn't an issue to me but I set it so it's level with my top step (on my weak side) and I place one Ameristep on the strap on my strong side. It give me the best of both worlds. All day comfort of a platform and the steps on each side allow 360 shooting and the feeling of having more mobility with more control.

That's the exact set up I had in mind. I got some squirrel steps to pair with whatever platform I end up with. Glad to hear it works as good as I thought it would. Thanks

Sounds like some of you need to watch Dave1963 video again. Theres no need for side steps to shoot 360 with a platform

The side steps, for me, aren't just for improved shooting angles. I like them for better slow movement control. I can ease my way off the platform much slower under more control with a step out there. With no step, and penduling from a tether, I don't have slow control of my movement when going 90 degrees from the platform. Knees against the tree helps control that movement, but not like having a step off to the side.

Use a lone wolf hand climber. We use it 99% of the time for climbing up and down straight trees. Saddle/ climber/ platform combo. BUT, it can also be used with sticks, screw ins, rope ons etc. Use the band as a shoulder strap. Climb up sticks, lean back on linesman belt, put the band around the tree, stand on it....done

I've seen this done a lot. What about side pressure. Seems like it would fly away on you

We run a strap with a ocb buckle around the platform (see pic ) once you install the strap, you can literally stand on the side of the platform and it will not move.

Ya I've posted this before, but if your a sitter then you aren't getting the same benefits of a platform as a leaner.

Video is "Lw hand climber/ saddle "
Bro I just watched it and I like it. So is that hand climber the same as the one lone wolf still sells for 159 right now or is it an older version. Also what are the dimensions? I couldn't find anything on that. And I couldn't tell in the video but what kind of strap is that just a regular cam strap?

I think the reason I like this method so much is because I also 1 stick climb to save weight, bulk and so I'm not limited to the height of x amount of climbing sticks. Using this hand seat and carrying my stick I'll be right at 4lbs total and I could climb any tree weather it's crooked or straight as high as I want. Plus I was thinking I could mount my stick to the bottom of the platform while carrying then when I climb and I'm at hunting height I can grab the stick and mount it to the tree real quick so I can step below the platform and easily put the strap on the hand seat at a downward angle which should really lock it down tight. Then just climb up into it and leave my stick where it's at. I'm into this I think.

What stick are you using? I don't know the exact weight, but I'm sure my hand climber is gotta be at least 3 pounds

@Slingpredator06 ..I think you asked me what the size differences are between the predator and the Lone Wolf hand climber. Here are two pics. The other platform is a diy modded lone wolf tree stand platform. Hope this helps...

@Slingpredator06 not sure where in NC you are located but I’m stationed at Ft Bragg. If you are close by I have a Predator platform you could stand on/take a look at if you want.

I had come up with a couple different cast designs a little bigger than the predator to fit a size 13 boot. Once I plotted them out full scale, they where what I felt just to big. I went thru 10 different versions. I think the predator is pretty good. Maybe add a couple ameristeps, one on each side to give more mobility, but in reality, the predator is pretty good. I also looked at a machined version out of 1/2” billet, but the post mount gets pretty bulky when adding big enough bolts to keep it all together. I didn’t have anything quoted, but it would get pretty pricy.

That helps me out too! I just ordered a hand climber upper, I'm in Illinois, I do most of my hunting within 3/4 of a mile of the truck. So the bulk isn't going to be the issue it would be if I were hunting big woods and mountains.
And I want to be able to stand to shoot when needed. I'm new to saddle hunting, I wouldn't be happy if a big buck slipped by while I was fumbling around trying to get a shot off on my weak side. The platform size of the hand climber looks to be just right.
