Nocking Points

I recently went back to a brass nock because I kept having my tied nock point split my serving. No matter if I used a nail knot or constrictor knot. So far I like the brass nock.
Try a nail knot and use a slightly larger diameter material or use a 1 wrap of plumbers tape in the spot you want to tie a knot and can use regular diameter like the serving. Gives a little more surface to grab and won’t split the serving

I’ve tried larger diameter serving, same size serving as well. I have plumber tape under my serving. I’ll try it under the nock point

I use floss. It is not adjustable but easy enough to cut off and move and very cheap. I put a drop of super glue on them when I am done tying them. Usually my floss nocks last about as long as my strings which is 2 years.

What type of nocking point do prefer for your bow, brass or tied? Do you tie or crimp nocking points both above and below the nocking point? If you tie your nocking point, what type of string or serving do you use (thickness & material)? What type of nock do you tie? Pictures would be awesome!

tied with leftover b50

Just updating. I have settled with a single nock point that is above the arrow. I’ve been tying them but I’m not opposed to a brass nock I just don’t have any nor the special pliers for them. To each their own!

Brass on top; nail knot below. For years now, I've tied on my nocking points and that was fine. Last year I bought a good pair of Saunders nocking pliers and a dozen brass nock points that fit my string. No way I'm going back to a tie on nocking point on my top point; the reason being is adjustability while bare shaft tuning my bows. It takes me seconds to micro adjust my nock height with the pliers in my pocket at the range. Of course you can do the same with tied on nocks, but they have always moved if I can adjust them by hand. Once I went home and made a more permanent nock point they didn't move but that was another step I didn't care for.

I do it like the link below and use the same diameter as the serving on my string. If you go smaller than the diameter of your serving it bites in too much and isn’t adjustable. If you go bigger it tends to slip. I always do a top and bottom nocking point. There is a reason top target archers use them.

I use the same knot with the BYC nock tying thread Redbeard uses. I use Flemish strings (not fast flight) from 3Rivers or RMSG. One nock point tied above shooting 3 under. I’m not a top archer, with the distances I’m shooting, with the wood arrows and big fletchings, I haven’t seen a need for a nock point under.

I've used brass since 1965 and I'm too old to change.:tearsofjoy:
Whats the best pliers you’ve found for them? I’ve seen some ugly pinch jobs on other folks bows, I think I good circular crimp would make all the difference on look and feel of a brass nock

some of that is how well the serving was installed

i'm fully compound now, but was once fully trad

anyways, my compound string servings on a factory string will separate under the d loop but aftermarket strings from a well known maker do not

I think he makes his own strings… lol!

ouch.....disregard my previous comments....it only applies to silly compound bows.....

edit: i never heard trad guys that made their own strings talk a lot about serving separation and how to prevent it (because they don't have d loops and cams that bend the string/cables)
