Still hunting only on public and private.
Additional 7 deer to regular season limit in 2 days.
I think it’s a recipe for big deer & people to get shot.

See the details below. I took out the somewhat irrelevant info to make it all fit:

During the 2019–2020 hunting season, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) has collected more than 5,000 samples for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) testing across the state. However, sample numbers are lower than expected for counties in the North MS CWD Management Zone. Since October 2019, 25 CWD-positive deer have been detected from this zone. To obtain additional samples, a 2-day February special season was set during the January meeting of the Commission on Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks. The proposed season includes:
Special Season
All counties included in the North MS CWD Management Zone
February 8–9, 2020 (Saturday/Sunday)
Mandatory CWD sample submission on day of harvest for all harvested deer
1 physical check station will be in each of the five (5) CWD-positive counties
Legal weapons:
Weapon of choice may be used on private lands.
Primitive weapons may be used on Graham Lake, Hell Creek, Malmaison, O’Keefe, Tuscumbia Unit 1, Upper Sardis, and Holly Springs National Forest.
Muzzleloader/Youth Gun on Charles Ray Nix and Tuscumbia Unit 2

Still hunting only on public and private lands

Bag Limits (in addition to regular season)
Private Lands, Upper Sardis WMA, and Holly Springs National Forest
2 bucks (1 buck per day and 1 may be sub-criteria)
5 does
Wildlife Management Areas
2 bucks (1 buck per day and both must meet antler criteria)
5 does

I think we're most of the confusion is going to come is what is still hunting by definition. Because people like the hunting public call walking around real slow, still-hunting. I would call that, spot and stalk. Still hunting would be sitting your ass in one spot and not moving. I'm sure this is what they are referring to as still hunting. They must feel that the deer population can handle extra numbers removed from the herd and giving them more samples to check for CWD. If I were you I'd take advantage of the situation and just go kill some extra deer. The unfortunate truth of the matter is some people will kill deer and not bring them to the check station to have them tested. Therefore doing the biologist and the deer herd absolutely no good.

Just called - their definition of “still hunting” is just hunting without dogs. I thought that was pretty interesting.

Deer hunting in Alabama is listed as “stalk hunting” and you know there’s only about three souls actually doing that.

Yea they killed over 900 in a 2,000 acre peace last to not find one positive cwd deer. This year there trying to get the public to do it for them. It’s not going to work.
