0CB2F24A-DA87-4606-86DD-F7FB16E12A42.jpeg This bear has been a nuisance to my camera for the last couple months, consistently showing up every day or couple of days, nothing on the ground either I don’t use any treats, and yup that camera is officially offline according to my APP, I’m pretty sure he probably finally destroyed my antenna, the camera hopefully is safe I use camlock boxes.DCBD4CEB-7A1C-4509-85C3-4B40F21BD52D.jpeg Amazingly enough he didn’t destroy it this day.D6F7840A-16D0-41A7-83E6-0981C812A6DC.jpeg This bull moose has been by a few times also, sometimes he is with a cow.

I'd be mounting my cameras a little higher off the ground lol Cool pictures though!
I hear ya, every year I say I’m gonna start hanging them higher but old habits are hard to break! These antennas are gonna make me start real soon though!

@Topdog - the cam lock boxes are great - I use them with all my trail cams. Have you considered using small braided cord or hawk rubber coated wire to wrap the top of the antenna a time or two and then continue around the tree (basically supporting the top of the antenna so that a bear can’t pry it away from the rest of the cam so easily)?

No I haven’t but I just mite give that a try thanks, those cam lock boxes are no joke, I ‘m impressed, fit and finish is excellent and rugged.

Not a chance that would work. Bears are extremely strong. I used to deal with them a lot when I owned my farm. Hated the damn things with a passion! Best prevention for bears is to never ever touch that cam with bare hands, always wear clean scent free gloves (my experience anyway).

Or buy a bear tag

Bears are hard to kill without baiting. I only ever had two opportunities while hunting, one big boar climbed the tree I was in about half way to me and all I could see through scope was black (with ML, was worried what happened if I wounded him with only one shot). The other was a barely legal bear and I chose to pass. The young bears tend to be the worst and in VA it's illegal to shoot sow with cubs or the cubs. Had a few times when sow with cubs came within range. Guess long way of saying I was covered up with bears on property but only saw them in person a few times.

As stated, never touch camera with bare hands, get some venom gloves or any other brand thick mm disposable gloves and wear those when handling the cams. You could carefully wipe the ones you have touched with rubbing alcohol to clean them from the oils from that bag of Bugles you had to have.

Similar experience, I was losing multiple cameras every year to bears. I started spraying my cameras with scent killer, you have to absolutely saturate the cam, strap and any part of tree that you touch for it to work but, I haven't lost a single camera in the last five+ years doing this.

i mount mine 10 feet up, and the black bear still climb up....i think they think it is a bee hive.....the only trick i've found to always work is above the bear's reach and on a skinny tree that they can't climb

Thats crazy! I have had one bear on camera one single time on my place. I would kinda like to see more of them but I like my cameras lol

the black bear is our state animal :)....local dnr routinely traps them and moves them out of residential neighborhoods!
