Novix Mini Stick Problems

How are you setting the stick? Have you tried turning it to the side and attaching?

I have not tried going to the side like the video above shows. I just set the stick on the tree, wasnt even using the loops on the chain, and just attached them just like a rope mod which got them a tad tighter but obviously not tight enough apparently.

What kind of tape is that? My buckles are one of the last remaining noisy parts of my setup, and I'd love to do something other than felt strips.

LWCG Slayer tape I believe

I have used the novix with Daisy chains and have had no problem
Good to know. Im starting to feel a tad better that its not the stick but the straps or method of using them - hopefully. Cuz I love how compact these sticks are. I need to be safe though above all else.

My DIY/EWO sticks and my Novix minis both use daisy chain straps from EWO. Both work great. I take care to eliminate as much slack as possible using the following 3-pronged approach:
1) make sure strap is perfectly horizontal and hope a loop lines up perfect with the button when pulled very tightly around tree.
2) If not, try angling stick sideways (requires some standoff adjustment) to try and get the button to the tightest loop possible.
3) If not, use the buckle-less method by pulling strap under button, behind strap going the other way, over button, behind strap again, and then half hitched.

An emphasis is that for all three scenarios the strap has to be perfectly horizontal around the tree and without twists, and pulled as tight as possible.

I've tried the strap twist approach but can never seem to get enough twists to make a difference.

YMMV

Climbing is dangerous and I don't recommend any of these methods as you could die.

The only method I have not tried is #2. Based on that video it does look like I may be able to get the strap tighter by angling the stick. Kinda looks like a pain in the butt though. Muddy Pros just wrap the rope around and into the cam and Im tight and safe. Takes a couple seconds tops and I never have to wonder if my stick is going to kick out or fall down the tree. The fiddle factor with these dasiy chains may be more than I am personally willing to deal with however. I like coming back home at the end of each hunt. I am probably going to switch back to the stock straps that I know will be able to get tight.

I hear ya. Nothing beats a Muddy cam cleat for secure speed. Just wish they weren't so dang heavy.

I've never had a kickout in two years of using these, but who knows? My day could be coming.

Be safe out there!

Yeah its slayer tape, the 1 inch roll worked out good for the buckles.

The Muddy weight is why I got these minis - all 4 Novix fit perfectly in one of my totes, they are half the weight and just look freaking awesome too - now if I can just get them to be secure and safe I'll be quite happy.

And to stay on topic with the thread. I use cam buckles on my novix minis and they're super solid. On the lwcg minis the buckleless method works great

It's 100% the straps. Ditch the straps. I hunted with the original minis for at least 10 years. Rope mod worked great and eliminated the metal.
I'm going to ditch these straps for sure. Only problem is I don't have an extra 4 stock straps lying around so will need to get some.

I think there was a member selling a set of beast cam buckles on here. Thought I saw them for sale last week. Might still have them.

Can’t take credit they’re loaners from @Teddy9871 (thx bro) I really like the tape vs bike inner tube mod........
That tape looks nice, I might have to get some. I've been pretty happy with the yak grips mod on my buckles.

Sold them over the weekend. Bummer bro.
