Nutterbuster and Scooby-Doo

I stuck my scooby today on a duck hunt. Almost had it unstuck. My wife came to my rescue in her outback. Not how I wanted to spend my morning but oh well.

i pulled my scooby doo wagon into my brothers driveway while he was gone, up to the hood in snow. went in and out with no issues. i love my outback

I was actually shocked at how far it went through the muck. I was within two feet of being out.
 
And a couple straps that I could use on trees for anchor points.
Ah yes. I have most of that but was stuck in the middle of a flat where the lake had receded. I didn’t have anything to tie off to. I thought about burying my spare and tying off to that but there were lots of rocks and I broke my shovel.

There are also ground anchors you can buy or make. But realistically, there’s only so much stuff you can carry.

Deflating the tires is probably the best thing to try.
 
Oddly enough, SWMBO and I test drove a used Forester yesterday. Her Equinox is past due for replacement and she's always liked Subies. Looked at a 14 and an 18.
 
I came home last night from work and the kids had taken their new Scooby and set out a trap line. We can trap coons and coyotes until April 14 on private land. Not sure how it happened but I guess I did something right.
 
IMHO, late 90s-early 00's foresters and outbacks are some of the best cars of all time. Reliable, easy to work on, just good stuff. No real frills.

Yep, my newest outback is a 2014 and causes more issues than my older 2006.

A couple of counter points...

1) Early to mid 2000s was when the head gasket issue really became a thing
2) The front wheel bearing on my Baja is pressed in. Instead of using a slide hammer and replacing a hub/bearing assembly, I'm going to need to use a press.
3) The top mounted oil filter, in conjunction with a Fumoto valve, makes oil changes really nice on my new WRX

But with the way things are made nowadays and 0W20 oil, we'll see if my WRX lasts as long as my Legacy and Baja.
 
My 2010 outback that I passed down to my daughter had the first head gasket go out at 130,000 mi and the second head gasket go out at 180,000 miles. She is still using it as her primary car and it is about 200,000 miles right now. Still worth that I think because getting 200,000 mi out of a car is becoming more common, but a total of $9,000 in repair bills is a little hard to stomach. It still didn't stop me from buying another outback 2018. That one's got 78,000 mi on it so far.

I mean, you could probably make an argument about nuanced issues with every make/model/generation of car on the road. They sold a ton of them, they have a good following of folks that search them out still, and there are a ton of them still on the road at 25 years old.

Head gaskets are also pretty easy to do on those cars, almost as easy as my drag car thats got a pretty gutted engine bay. If you have a press, the wheel bearings are simple as well.

My 2014 crosstrek daily beater and 2019 prem crosstrek is setup the same way as your wrx, it definitely makes it easy. I have remote mount oil filters on almost everything I own.
