NutterBuster Tries a Platform Again

IMG_2525.jpegIMG_2524.jpeg
Hey guys, I just couldn't get the stability of the treesuit style platform out of my mind. I welded this one up this summer to use in the fall. Instead of using the expanded steel sheet for the top (which was not cost effective for me and added almost zero strength) I used a steel tube offcut. I wear a size 13 and I cant seem to get my foot down through those holes any way I try and I have been shooting out of it and doing observations maybe 4 times a week. This picture shows some supports at the back which I have since removed since they prevent the strap from being all the way against the horizontals and lead to more camming action on the strap. I also upped the dimensions a bit, wider and deeper, to give me more real estate with my larger boots. I figure if I need a longer draw length on my bow than some, I probably would do better with a platform size that fits my boot. So far I am really liking this creation.

Saw this when you dropped it. Worth the price of free admission for the entertainment value, worth sticking around for the knowledge value. Thanks for another honest opinion, @Nutterbuster! Gotta get you to drop the Miller Lite and switch to Budweiser though...
Oh wait, different video ;)

I love that i found this site, those style platforms I really like, I made mine from ERW tubing in 20mm and I can't think there will be much weight saving from ally, as I think smallest i would want to try in the ally would be 25mm or inch in your terms, I will try one this week and tig in ally to see.
I need my kit as light as possible so I can get all my kit on a plane for travelling to hunt. regards wayne

Cam strap is what I'm using in the video, and it gets plenty tight. I thought about an OCB, but I don't believe it's needed. The treesuit is honestly about the steadiest thing I've ever put my feet on. And the cam buckle is so easy!

What strap would you think would be best on the new Treehopper Tree Suit with the angled supports underneath?

I just got the platform today. Would love to get rid of that noisy buckle somehow. but it does get rock solid with it. Anybody ever try using some sort of am-steel attachment?

Have a friend who’s been tinkering with amsteel options but hadn’t settled on anything worthwhile the last I checked with him. I found OCB worked really well with it, but I think I’ve settled on using a nylon tree strap with a sliding bar buckle. I put an s hook on one end, which makes it really easy to hook up and cinch down

Mickey 2.jpgThat is why I like the "platforms" I build, you can hook your heels in the hoops or push off on the outside to get around the tree. I usually use two plus run my ladder top even so I have plenty of area around the tree to stand and adjust

Sorry I hadn't got to try it til I seen this post. I just went outside and put it on the night light pole and tried it for about 5 minutes. As of now yes I like it more than the steel one. It's also considerable lighter. I'm gonna make a separate post for it in the DIY section as to not distract from this thread more.
Did you ever create a separate post with your version of the platform. Getting ready to make mine and I like your design. May give it a go with some tweaks.
