NutterBuster Tries a Platform Again

Here's my Memorial weekend project - basically took dimensions from @Nutterbuster 's post and cloned it the best I could from scrap metal. I don't have a way to weld aluminum so it's solid steel, strength is overkill and its not super light, but the only thing I had to buy was the expanded metal for the top and it was a fun project. I coated the top with truck bed-liner to help with grip and she's super solid.

Next steps are straps and to figure out how to fit it into my system, ideally I'd like to attach it to my saddle so it will always be in the same place, no matter which climbing method I'm using.

If I pursued a second prototype, I would try to save weight by either finding someone who could weld aluminum or buy less beefy metal instead of compromising for what was laying around. I would also like to experiment with scooting the legs closer - although it may compromise some ability to handle side pressure, it would give me access to smaller trees to use.

I'll post a follow up after I get straps and do some yard runs, but overall I'm happy with it. I love this design because there are no moving parts, everything is stationary and like nutty says in the video, it doesn't creak. No bolts, all fully welded.

Hey guys, I'm new to this saddle method. I am getting set up with everything and looking to have a buddy weld me a platform. I really like the design that started this whole thread. I have a few questions for you all as far as comfort. Has anyone noticed a difference in comfort from the "flat top" platform designs where your feet would be resting on the angle of the outer edge compared to the slanted design of the Scout.

Any thoughts on this?

I hunted all season from a platform similar to this but a bit smaller. The flat design worked great for sitting; however, as someone who prefers to lean more the edge of the flat platform does get uncomfortable on your feet. It wasn’t a big deal I simply adjusted periodically. I now have the scout and it suits my style of hanging very well. Which way will you spend the majority of your time? Standing or leaning?

I'm not sure if I'll sit or stand. Remains to be seen. Maybe I'll try to make a hybrid of sorts.

The one I made (post 61 above) has holes on each side of a central bar that my heels can’t go down into when I’m leaning. I really like this design and used it for sitting and leaning all year long. My only complaint is the weight is substantial.
