NYSH F4 and FCX (safeguard/grigri killer?)

I think the F4 has been discussed recently. I saw the video a while back and thought it was pretty cool. I think the reason it will probably not replace the safeguard or Grigri is that the rope has to be fed through the holes manually and so the F4 is basically a bail out device, designed for firefighters to have so they can get out of a building in an emergence. I think that the price, about $75, will stifle the acceptance of an F4 over a slightly more expensive but more adaptable unit like the safeguard. If the F4 we like $30 more people might try it. I could be mistaken.

I am always happy to see videos from the New York Saddle Hunters. They got me into Ddrt. I just wish Ddrt was more applicable for me around here.
The F4 and the FCX which I have both are easy to pull the rope through. The cost is over 100 dollars and the FCX is more expensive than the F4. I have both the Grigri plus and the Madrock safeguard with Cayon Elite and
C-IV rope but I perfer the 8mm rope and the FCX. There are no internal parts to fail on either the FCX or the F4.

I am using the F4 this season. I have not had to re-feed the rope through the device since the day I first set it up.

I have mine set up using all 4 holes and it is a smooth slow decent. The draw back is pulling rope through while climbing in all 4 is much more difficult than the 3 hole option.

Largest concern I have is the absolutely necessity to wear a glove while holding the F4. My palm can quickly be in contact with the rope as it is sliding through the device. This isn’t that big of a deal since I prefer to wear a glove on my slack rope had also.

I’m not going back since I want 8mm in spec and it is mostly an option I only use getting down rather than climbing up (I used a standard tether for that).

That's why I prefer the FCX. You pull the handle to rappel just like the Grigri and Madrock. The 8mm rope slides through the device when one sticking without any problem.
