I'm debating opening my ground for a week or two for pay hunt. Anyone on here do the same and if so what's a going rate, where do you advertise???
 
Just keep in mind, you are entering into a commercial business and make sure you have insurance to cover any liability from any injuries or damages taking place on your property. Talk to your insurance underwriter to make sure you get the recommended coverage.

In Michigan, we have a hold harmless law that shields a land owner from lawsuits brought by a recreational hunter given permission to hunt on the land owners land. Once a fee is paid, it becomes a commercial enterprise and that shield is no longer in place.
 
Good to know. I imagine there is no way around this? What if the hunter signs a document saying they are liable? I was looking to cover my seed and fuel cost with it, now I dont know

Good on you for considering open up your land. Here in VA you can have someone sign all the documents you what but what two different attorneys told me is someone could still come after you. That's why where I live it's so hard to get permission, no one wants the liability. Insurance probably would help you out there.

To be fair though, it should be noted that if you have assets there is always the risk of someone coming after you. Tort reform is long over due!
 
After some review, I see there is protection in Michigan even for those who take payment for allowing hunting & fishing on their property. Below is an excerpt from the Michigan law. I suggest you review Ohio's laws or talk to your insurance underwriter and or a Lawyer to protect yourself.

 
Advertising on here is prob a safe bet. If you are recouping seed and fuel does that mean it’s planted and are you hunting it also or do you want a rate for a full lease where only the leasee /hunter has access?

You can have them sign a liability waiver and it will protect you. That doesn't mean they still can't sue you, they just won't win. Still a hassle and costly. They just need to go the gross negligence route. States have their own protection mechanisms as mentioned in the prior post above. I say you meet the client and figure them out. When I ask permission I tell the landowner "If I fall out of a tree it's my own fault, don't worry, I won't sue you." They know I mean it because people know people. Still have them sign the waiver since they are paying.
 
I'd just get the insurance for as cheap as it is. The Ohio sportsman's forum would be a good spot as long as you don't make outrageous claims like a few outfitters have there.
 
I know my brother in-law does this for some of his farm and he rents out 200 acres to 3 guys and they pay 2k per person. He's in SE MN if that helps ya out. He's had the same guys do it for the past 10 years.
