Ok guys....SUV or Crew Cab?

Ok....update...finally pulled the trigger. Man are trucks in short supply tigh now with the microprocessor shortage...
2021 V8 gmc Sierra crew cab. 6.5' box. Think I'm going to like it. There is way more space in it than the Subaru. Now to sell some stuff and get a cap....

Was going to buy a Ford....only super cabs around here werec4 cylinder! That's a go cart!

Go and get some tires and some shocks! I’d vote shocks over the tires to be honest. Lift front end if possible with either a lift or leveling kit. Bottoms out in the least amount of canter or bump. Coming from an owner.

Notes: keep the truck out of any water (electrical) and keep gas tank fill area clean of debris (fuel pump). Seriously keep a rag or something to clean gas hose port. Ford has it also but I’ve never ran into the issues as I have with the gm. Good truck otherwise. Engine strong. Ford did a little better job mapping the tranny (same transmission in both the 1500 and 150) but it does a good job otherwise.

Remember when you think you’re stuck just hold down the slip icon down until esc is off. Whole knew ride then!

Haven't had mine long enough to know about those kinds of issues but I just sold my 2007 Sierra 2500 diesel in order to get the new one, never had any issues with that one as far as 4x4 goes. I did find the 5.3L a little under powered so I went with the 6.2L gas. It seems the most popular engine is the small inline 6 cylinder diesel engine (3.0 maybe). Good thing about the Sierra over say a Tundra, is you can get a longer bed (three sizes). I had a 2010 Tundra crewmax and though I loved it, I hated that tiny short bed (can only get a longer bed on the double cab Tundra). I'm sure a Tundra will last longer since they don't do all this engine detuning when the power isn't needed, auto stop (most annoying thing on the planet) etc.

I had a 2014 gmc with the 5.3. Just traded it in on a 2018 with the 6.2. There’s a huge difference in power not that the 5.3 ever was lacking for what I needed it to haul. I’m blown away by the gas mileage I’m getting with the 6.2. I am running 91 octane ethanol free so I pay a bit more at the pump. My hunting land is about 65 miles from my home. It’d all 55 mph highway with a few slow downs and stops to go through a couple of towns. The last three times I checked the mileage on the way home from my property I’ve got 24.7, 24.9 and 25.0 mpg. I believe the best I ever got with my 5.3 was 23 for the same stretch of highway.

A good practice to protect any (tank mounted) fuel pump is to fill up before you get to a quarter tank. The pump is cooled by fuel in the tank. Most fuel pumps go out right after the tank is filled (after being almost empty). In other words a hot pump was cooled rapidly.

Crazy, I never had any issues with my 2006 gmc 2500hd(other than normal stuf and the abs sensors sucked!). Original fuel pump and all....even had a 9ft boss v plow on it and had a sander in the bed the first 10 years of its life...it was a great truck till the mice ate all the main wiring harnesses under the fuse box in the hood.....guess that was an electrical issue!

I have a 2012 XL F-150 super crew cab and a 5.6" bed. I have the diamondback cover on the back. Pros---hides all my gear and locks well...tailgate locks too. Makes it semi-secure for lazy thieves. Cons---cuts my storage in half compared to the topper I had on my 1999 F-150.
The engine is the 5.0 and only 2 wheel drive. I've towed everything from a 5000lb trailer loaded with boyscout camping gear to my 3500 popup camper. Easy and very roomy. I'm 5'4, my wife is 5' and my two boys are 5'6" and 5'4" respectively. When I get another truck it will be on of those vans that I can camp in and store all my gear. I'll set up a hammock inside the van and enjoy my campout/hunting trips. In my truck, I put down the seat in the back and place a sleeping bag on top of the seat. I then lay down on my side, put my pillows on the door and lay down. I can literally lay straight in the back of the truck without my knees being bent. Works for me, but for some of you forest giants (< 5'6") that won't work. I hunted in 15 degrees and a 30 mph wind. When we got back to camp, we ate dinner and my partner and his son went to their tent. The wind collapsed their tent over with a buddy heater inside the tent. Woke my buddy up and he had to deal with getting the tent back up at 0200. Me....I slept snug like a bug in a rug till my alarm went off. I had wrapped up in merino wool and other wool blankets. I was WARM!! That wind is not getting through the truck...now a tent would have been miserable.

I have had a lot of new vehicles due to my work, hands down the best truck I have ever owned is my toyota tundra, double cab, the only thing I will do different when I buy another one is get a new matching leer or ARE cap of some sort with canoe rack, I live in upstate NY with stupid amounts of road salt, I have my vehicles sprayed with Crown Oil rust preventative every spring, my truck is a 2012 with zero rust, the frame is still black, I used to buy brand new vehicles every 4 years before my tundra and Crown Oil treatments.
I fluid film my truck every year too to keep the impacts of hellacious road salt to a minimum. It does help. I'm currently in a 2016 Silverado V8 5.3L I burn firewood to heat my home so I need a truck and a utility trailer. I also have a LEER Cap on it and I will never not have a truck cap again. I'm blessed that I live super close to my work so I keep my miles down by walking or biking to work when I can and don't have to pick my kids up. I have a co-worker who has a 2007 Tundra..... he does nothing to it and there is not a speck of rust on it. I am impressed by that.

I just had to sell my 2006 F150 because the frame was rusted to unsafey.

Now that I’m back in the Navy, I won’t be hauling firewood but I will be traveling a whole lot more. And I’ll probably have a 45 minute to an hour commute to the base when I move. I’m leaning towards a used Subaru Outback for my next vehicle. I have to buy something next week. And then I’ll drive it from Cincinnati to Gulfport Mississippi.

Just got out of my outback because if rust. Get one, you won't be sorry.

My 2003 tundra looked good, until you looked under it. It died a slow rusty death.
