Old sewing machine clean up and repair thread

Before and after of the underbelly. I used kerosene in a spray bottle, rubber gloves, a nylon brush, and a air compressor to clean it down.

Here is the list of parts I think I’ll need to get this thing running.

Needle Plate
1x Needle Plate Screw
Bobbin Plate
Bobbin case (the clip to hold the bobbin would budge and I broke it, costly mistake)
Bobbins
Needles
Tension assembly
Belt (you can see in the bottom photo there is some cracking.
Take up spring (appears To be in good shape but I’ll go ahead and replace)

All the parts are ordered. I am sinking more money into this then I originally thought, but I saved 15% using a discount code and took another $55 off using cash back from my credit card (that's fake money right?). I’m really bad at buying and selling though so it’s no surprise. I need to figure out a way to test the clutch motor it came with and then see about selling it. Maybe I can make a couple bucks off it. I’d hate to sell my singer 241-11 but I might put the clutch motor on it and see if I can get more for it as a complete set.

I've shared this before, but just in case you hadn't seen or need a refresher:

Nope. The man has a lot of great videos, helpful posts on the Leatherworker forum, and an online store with good accessories.

Finally did some more work on my singer 111. First up was the belt. The handle was tough to get off and I had to heat it up to get it off the rod. Next I had to take off the bushing it was dreadful. About 2-3 hours of prying, beating with a hammer and punch, and heating it up I finally got the bushing off. Had to clean up the rod and bushing a little where I got a little too zealous, but the belt went on in about 5 mins. I also added the new tension assembly on, a new bobbing cover, lower feed dog foot, and feed dog foot cover. I still need to replace the bobbin case since I broke it while cleaning. Not much left to do as far as new parts, just need to get a new needle and get it timed up. I still need to find or build a new table for this machine.

Does anyone have an old style walking foot machine with a oil drip pan? I am trying to decide if it is necessary or not. I currently have a industrial 214-11 that has an actual oil reservoir to self lubricate. The Singer 111-151 I recently refurbished is manual oil lubrication and it typically came with the drip pan. When I bought the 111-151 the table was so warped that I tossed it out and accidentally tossed the drip pan as well. I would like to be able to use one table and just switch out the heads of the machine. This would mean that I need to remove the oil reservoir pan that the 241-11 uses. It would also mean that I would need to manually lube the 241-11. This should not be an issue since I read at the speeds I run the machine the oil will not move through the system and oil the machine automatically anyhow. So, if I remove the oil pan reservoir, do you think that manually oiling the machine there would be enough oil dripping that I would need to purchase or jimmy rig a oil drip pan similar to the one below, or just let it ride?

Thanks!

New bobbin case installed! When I removed the old one I realized why I broke the other one when it wouldn’t open, it had a bunch of thread knotted underneath.
Next step, setting up timing and seeing if it’ll sew by hand wheel crank. Getting close. I wish I wouldn’t procrastinate this stuff really is easy and doesn’t take much time at all.AB947C89-3483-4ED6-AB08-95BC7CC8F22E.jpeg4011646C-E884-4F05-A847-9AED14F16270.jpeg1FE5D37E-2F23-4F29-85D5-30F0DE0D9D2D.jpeg

Good for you man, just wait till it’s working. My old singer clone from Craigslist has paid for itself many times over. Just sewed up a holster for bino harness the past couple of days. Amazing what you can create if you just try
