Older guys

I'm 57. 2TC, SRT and rappel.
What is the distance you are getting between each movement? 54 here, i am just setting up my system now. I'm trying, really trying. Tried 1 tether and summit base, tried 2tc with wood at feet, tried 2tc with 2 foot loops - all attached to climbing harness. I can't seem to make more than 6" progress for each move. Today I will try 2tc with 1 footloop and harness and 2tc with footloop and thigh strap......I may even try the SRT....I

What method of climbing do you use?? I’m 64 my plan is on my private property is for pre sets . I will use spikes and screw ins. On non pre set stands I am thinking either one stick or three sticks. Thanks
Consider JRB climbing see his group on FB. Topics tab for instructional videos. The safest way up and down. Light, compact, minimalist. I am 68. Honestly it is easy.

My father who is 65 uses screw ins for presets on private and two full length climbing sticks with a single step aider on the bottom (only two sticks because less weight for him to carry) on public land.

I'll be 66 (really need a third 6 to make it more fun) by the time the 2022 hunting season rolls up. Just getting into saddle hunting. Plan to use Skeletor sticks and rapell to start, but will likely practice 1-sticking this summer to see if I like that better.

But because I'm qualified for this thread, I'm using a JX3 for comfort. LOL

The thing I find about the JRB method is how SAFE it is. It’s about as redundant a system as you can build. BUT, you can climb similarly with just one rope(half his system basically)
I’m gonna be 55 at the end of March. This is/was my first season in a saddle. I’m currently 1 sticking up, rappelling down. Playing with all things saddle hunting and studying different climbing methods. I hunt public land, and am having more fun than ever before……maybe one day I’ll actually kill a deer!

I`m 66 and use 5 muddy pro`s with nylon sling aiders both up and down. It seems the single stick/rappel down method is very popular with folks in my age group and older. I had no idea. Thanks for posting guys .

I just saw this and thought wow that post was two years ago. That being said I am 68 now and still climbing with modified muddy sticks with 3 step aiders ans at other times i use a single stick . I always rappel down . Iam shooting a R 10 Ravin from a ground blind and saddle. I have been succesful each of the past 5 years and have 5 kills from the ground and 4 from my Kestrel saddle. Pretty good for an old guy

I'm 54 with a lot of arthritis. I like the hawk heliums, but any 3 double step stick will work. The Wild Edge Steps are awesome, actually my preference if I were doing pre sets.

There are a lot of hunters that are thrown off by the knot. Here is a very good video to get you past most of the mistakes. In my opinion, there is nothing more rock solid on the market when tied correctly, which isn't much effort, just a little practice.

I am glad most of you guys are doing what I am struggling to do. With some issues, I am going back to sticks with cable aiders. I can only do 15" to 16" steps. I hope someone comes out with a good saddle climbing platform.

What’s the problem? Maybe we can help. Nothing wrong with 15”, It’s perfect! My three step aider and stick are 15”.

Does seem like a long time ago doesn’t it. I’m still one sticking and can’t imagine doing it any other way. Dragging that Summit around was really getting to be…well, a drag. One sticking really did put a lot of the fun and pleasure back into hunting for me. I’m also shooting a Ravin R20. I’ve had it 4 years and I haven’t opened the gun safe since I got it. I hunt with my R20 the entire season. I’m 60 now and will be going out of state for the first time this year. Can’t wait to see what’s next!

59 1/2 been one sticking and rappelling for over 2 years. I too have been road hard after 24 plus in the SOF and find it so much easier less exertion required. Still have a climber, 2 loc on stands, and 10 or so sticks. Plan to keep one sticking and work on 2TC some. Still keep the other stuff for friends and family or just in case.

I'm 60 years old. I used 4 Hawk Helium sticks, Cruzr XC saddle, Ropeman 1 on terther and lineman. It worked well for me.
I did not like cable aiders, but that might be because I ordered them too long.

What state you going to?

52 One stick, 18" beast stick w/UP top. Repel down. I have had some ugly climbs, but still love this method. I do have some preset bolts on private.
