One of two weekends I can hunt Saturday AND Sunday this year. Windy tomorrow, should I hunt?

I hunted today in a steady wind with gust to 30-40mph. Although I didn’t see one in the stand, on my way out I ran into a big shooter and we had a stare down. He leaped into a brushy power line. I had an interesting game of cat and mouse with this big guy. I was on foot and saw the direction he was walking, so I went down a trail to intersect him. Sure enough, we see each other again and froze for about 5 mins. This happened a few more times when he headed away down the power line. Again, I thought I could intersect him one more time at the end of this power line. Sure enough, as I rounded the corner he was standing in the brush, I drew and he pivoted into some thicker brush. No shot, no buck, but that was an interesting encounter with a serious mature buck. The wet ground and wind was cover for me to be able to intersect this guy a few times. So I say get in the woods. You can’t kill them from the house, and it’s November 12th.

And this is why given the season is carry a gun. Cool story though.

Made it out today. Thanks all. Got up in my first tree and realized I left my arrows in my car. LOL. The wind shifted earlier than I thought it would so I moved to another spot and within 10 minutes a four-pointer walked from behind me and straight out. He was oblivious to me and even after a few grunts, kept moving. In PA you need three tines on one side and he only had two, so I didn't shoot. The wind picked up around 11, so I started to still hunt, the rain came in really heavy. I got soaked through, but I scouted a few miles and spooked two bucks where I thought they'd be hanging on a steep slope out of the wind. Gonna give it another go tomorrow. Thanks all.

I don’t think I could have gotten a shot at him even with a gun. There was a row of brush between us, he was in a heavy brush power line, I was on a parallel access trail. Between us was pretty thick brush. I could see his antlers through the brush, but definitely no clear shot. At the end of the power line, I may have been able to pull off a shot with a gun, but it happened pretty quick. He pivoted when I was half way into my draw cycle. Hopefully I will encounter him again.

I tried tonight and didn’t see a deer.

You'll never know if you dont go. One year I shot an 8 point while literally rocking in the tree. Go for it.
