  • We've been working hard the past few weeks to come up with some big changes to our vendor policies to meet the changing needs of our community. Please see the new vendor rules here: Vendor Access Area Rules

One shot, everyone knows the rules!

It's been a while since I did this. The first one was with the compound practicing low light shooting for those last few minutes of the day when the light is fading or the first few minutes in the morning. This one was shot at 19 yards at a pinecone at about 5AM this morning. I used a Judo head. The wood arrow is from the longbow at about 8 AM from the same distance. I'm pretty happy with both of those.

I took my first shot today with the new broadhead and it was the absolute worst flight I could have imagined. It barely even hit the target. Luckily it turned out that I simply didn’t have the feather oriented correctly. My bow will not shoot straight with a feather facing perpendicular to the shelf. Wheeew! Got back and shot about 6 more times and it flew really well out to 20 easy! That first shot almost robbed me of my confidence quickly.

I have a bow that is really finicky on feather orientation also. The current arrows are tuned perfectly if the cock feather is up. Switch it to cock feather out and I get major feather contact and erratic flight. It's funny how some times little changes make such a difference with some bows but, not others.

My recurve is tuned so that the contacting feather lead-in is in the groove where the riser meets the shelf!

Itching to be in the woods… a couple shots in the back yard will have to do for now. We have a long season in AL and things haven’t even started heating up yet so I think I’ll be ok, maybe. Put this shop light I got from HF outside after painting and it turned my backyard into a night range hahah
