I am new to sticks and DRT climbing and saddlehunting as well.
Those two methods are what I want to practice this summer,a friend who is experienced with tree work will help me with the rope part. One sticking will take some practice,as does everything I guess.
I think i want to mainly use the DRT method, but for early morning sits in unprepped trees the one stick should work.
I want to be able to rappel down however with the double rope, and as long as i have a sturdy branch at hunting height i should be fine, correct?
Or is there a way to attach the rope to the trunk of a tree and rappel down?

Girth hitch the rope and slide down on a descender. Remember to have a piece of cord tied to your rope to retrieve it.

If you have your rope set up as DRT then you would be able to come down by simply applying downward pressure to the top of your blakes hitch.

If you are just rappelling why not make a prussic are a Blake’s hitch and rappel down the rope The same way as srt. Granted if you have a good branch then drt would be best. But I some times climb using the one stick up a tree tie off using my rappelling rope. when I’m ready I just lower all my stuff down using the same rope I’m on then just slide down the rope using a madrock life gard (grigri).

I started DRT and switched to SRT. I found it was easier and half the rope. I’m sure you will come up with a system that works for you in the summer.
