One Stick method of Climbing.....

What hookup you do you find the easiest on a stick...... button(like LW stick), cam lock(muddy pro)?

Also.... Rope, AmSteel daisy chain, strap daisy chain?

What combo is the easiest to hook up and move while climbing?

Thanks.

Possibly the easiest to hook & unhook, but versa button & strap much easier to leave attached & climb with.
Yep. If you are going to go with the method of leaving it hooked up at all time and just moving it up/down the tree, a cam cleat is not the best option. I'd use a button and cam strap if I left it hooked up all the time.

Cam buckle mod I did. It works great.

I haven't tried other types so my opinion is limited, but I will throw in there that the muddy pro can cleat is nice for one sticking because you can hold the stick high with one hand, and use the other to finagle your rope in the cleat. I find that helps get more hight with less reseting.

Agree on the cam cleat. You don't even need to touch it to detach. So it allows a good range of overall move. I've 3d printed a little clip that I can wedge the tag end into close to the top of the stick. So I don't take the time to half hitch, and I can climb high enough that I can kick the top of the stick up just high enough to grab the top step with one hand and rope tag with the other.

Versaball mod I did works great with daisy chains. I’d like to try a cam cleat, they look super easy too.

Would you be able to post a pic of what your rope looks like when clipped?

So Catalyst has a Speed button that is for daisy chains. I ordered a couple and really like it.

Basically same concept as Snakeater's versa ball above.

I have the Harken Micro 468F. Tension on the rope will generally be less than your bodyweight. In some cases much less. Some of the vertical forces are being held by the standoffs, so the better the bite, the less tension the ropes sees. I measured tension on my rope over the summer and you see an initial increase in load when you set the stick down into the bark. After that, adding weight to the stick had a smaller than inspected increase in tension. If my memory serves me correctly, the rope was only seeing like 70lb of tension with me standing on the stick. Id have to go digging to find the exact numbers. Note however that it can vary greatly based on the bite of the standoff, the type of bark, and size of tree etc. V bracket on a telephone pole would likely see much more of the weight transferred to the rope (and by extension the cleat) for instance.

IDK who says the cam cleat isnt the best option to actaully hunt on or leave in place. I use my EWO stick with cam cleat as a platform sometimes and its rock solid never had a problem or worry.

I find the micro works for my LW with amsteel and the harken 150 with amsteel or something similar works best for my muddy pro. I do leave the versa button on these sticks tho as I use my muddy with scout and at final destination I add a amsteel daisy or do a rope mod tie to it as added insurance. I’m going to do my shikar stick the same but use a micro on it but leave the versa on it as well I only go done enough to allow the cam to move freely maybe 3/16” of a gap. Plus you can you use the versa as a connection point to hold your rope instead of drilling thru one side
