One-stick with cam cleat tie off at hunting height?

For those of you one sticking with a cam cleat like the Ultimate One-Stick, do you do any extra tie offs at hunting height if using the one-stick as a platform? The cam cleat has been working great for me on practice runs but I'm feeling like if I actually use the one-stick as a hunting platform that I should add a girth hitch or something else kind of like a rope mod. curious what people are doing.

I'm sure this has been talked about before but I can't find it. I'm still on the fence about whether I'm going to use the one-stick as a platform or just use a predator but would like to be prepared if I use the one-stick as an actual hunting platform.

I dont use a cam cleat but i always liked my platform cammed to the tree better. i tried a one stick platform and felt the side pressure or a weird slip and kick might leave me hangin up there. probably wpuld never happen if the rope is tight enough after you set the stick but once i switched to a mission anything else just seemed sketchy. that thing feels like its drilled into the tree.

Cool thanks for the replies guys! I may try a half hitch and see how it feels but seems as though it may not be necessary. I actually do have 4 squirrel steps in vet tap on a cam strap I plan to run with the angled scout on the ultimate one stick (if not doing an additional platform). I just need to get up in a tree more and see what I like better

Thinking I may grab the ultimate platform though if I do end up using the one stick as a platform.

Attach a cam over buckle with a step on each side of top step (my top step is 3 steps wide with spacers) to your stick, permanently. Only use this strap when you one stick up to your final height. Wrap strap around tree and cam over. You will then be tight and have a step on each side.

Edit: additional: Remember to always have a plan to get down (rappel or keep stick attached to you if it slips. I use the Harken cam cleat with highest rating, unlike most ppl here, and I have noticed that one of the locking mechs no longer auto closes causing rope to slip. I might ditch cleat all together

I took my cam cleats off and went back to the buckless method. I never felt any kind of slipping, but I did notice the rope didn't always seat the same and that bothered me. I look at that cleat and to be it's like running a carabiner without a locking mechanism......there is definitely a chance of that rope popping out the side of the cleat.
I reassessed what I was doing and decided that the few seconds I was saving with the cleat wasn't worth what I was giving up in security and packability. That cam cleat just never wanted to sit right no matter how I packed it up with my other gear.

Interesting. So you're saying you use the cam cleat and rope on the one stick to come up and then have an additional cam over buckle attached to the stick that you also use at hunting height with some steps on it? Never thought of that. Just making sure I totally understand what you're saying.

Yeah that's kind of how I feel about the cam cleat although I've never had any problems. I do feel comfortable climbing with the cam cleat though especially while being tethered in. My plan right now is to swap my scout on top with a double step and also bring a cam down platform. I think I'll like the extra platform space and I'm not really an ounce counter. But this will probably change many times during the season so we'll see lol

I just loop the tail of my rope over the top of the platform and against the tree. It keeps it out of the way and the rope isn't in a position to come out of the cleat.
