So I'm just getting into Saddle hunting. I only have access to state game land in Central PA, and figured this would be the best option to "Run & Gun".

I got the Cruzr XC saddle with the adjustable bridge (Prusik Knot) and waiting for my EWO Ultimate One Stick with an Ultimate Platform. I didn't grow up hunting and didn't start until just a few years ago (I'm 40), so most of my education comes from watching YouTube or reading online.

So most of the videos I watch of guys one sticking use primarily use their tether to climb and hold their stick while ascending. So is a linesman rope unnecessary? I picked up Ropeman1 as I see that's commonly used to easily adjust the linemans rope, but if I don't need it for that, I may just throw it on my bridge as I found the Prusik knot to be difficult to adjust when hanging while practicing this past weekend.

for safety reasons you should definitely carry a linemans/tether rope with you in addition to your rappel rope. You will want to hook up a linemans rope when you have to move the rappel rope over branches so that you are always connected to the tree. Some also use it while climbing to add in that extra layer of safety. I would not add it to the bridge though.

A linesman rope is unnecessary for one sticking. BUT it is highly recommended. Make things safer and easier, but will make the climb longer. Depending on your option if the tradeoff is worth it either way. Its the same principle as using climbing stick with/without lineman rope. Personally I recommend you do use it. Because climbing on aiders is not as solid as sticks. Just like some people climb sticks with lineman rope and tether.

If you’re gonna climb a tree with no limbs every single time, then no you don’t necessarily need the lineman’s rope. If you ever have to go around a limb while climbing you will need the lineman’s rope to hold you so you can advance your tether around the limb.

I started using an amsteel 1/4 in daisy tether for going around limbs when needed and it was not comfortable in the beginning but it works for me.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Looks like I'll be keeping my linesman rope in my pack.

I use the lineman’s rope one sticking. It is slower but allows for hands free when you have a slack tether. Plus it is safer.

You made some great choices one stick climbing method cruzur xc I have that one as well it's best one on market. Heres one investment you must buy Dan Infalt DVDs hunting hill country, hunting. Marshes, hunting farmland. The hunting public and adrenaline whitetails use his hunting techniques as foundation. John Eberhart is really good as well he specializes specializes in the rut.

I use a linesmen rope to doing the one stick climbing method. But use primarily to get around branches. How say a linesmen rope is safer than a tethered rope. Your going fall alot further down a tree with linesmen rope. The tethered is far way safer all videos I watch doing the one stick climbing method I never seen one just useing the linesmen rope buy itself. They all are useing the tethered rope as primarily rope. I don't think that's good advice not trying mean spirited.

I guess I was misunderstood. I use both a tether and a lineman’s rope together.

Yeah. I figured that. I haven’t heard of anyone one sticking with just a linesman rope. Honestly, I don’t even know how you’d safely reposition your stick, unless you were using climbing spurs, which I don’t think is legal on SGL in PA.

Well I figure using a lineman’s belt too gives two free hands and provides the same safety as using multiple sticks when your tether is slack. Having free hands and leaning back allows you to adjust a tether with two hands.
