OnX vs, HuntWise? Hunt stand etc?

From my viewpoint, if OnX would update their satellite to leaf-off (for the southeast, at least), they'd have the competition beat by leaps.

For me, other apps try to be too much. That makes the user experience frustrating with a steeper learning curve.

Just give me base layers, points, tracks, measuring, boundaries, etc. As Bob Dylan said ... "you don't need a weatherman to know which way the winds blows." And I don't need an app trying to overlay that either.

And I personally don’t care about all the social media type toys just give me the basics and make them rock solid.

OnX is a great app, but for the areas I hunt, their maps are 5+ years old and land owner data is 1-2 years outdated. I have used it since it came out, but after contacting them about the stale data, and getting a run around answer, I'm done. Huntstand is better and I'm experimenting with Basemaps now.

The stand alone GPS unit I bought back in the day had a desktop interface called base map…wonder if they are the same but a refresh from back then.

Spartan Forge is what I use. It was the new kid last year and has already surpassed several of the other apps with imagery and technology. If they can continue to do what they are doing they will probably get purchased or bought out by a larger tech company.

I tried the freebie recently and the Topo to me in Ky was lacking detail quit a bit. I assume the pay per view would use the free version trial topo.

The paid has contour options and you can choose between 25ft, 20ft, and 10ft contours, the best options for topo I have found in an app

The KY map on Spartan is terrible….who wants to see summer time maps on their hunting area? Onx is good, but I prefer HuntStand over any other app.

I still have a Garmin 62CSX, but stopped using it a few years ago.

I have been using Basemaps during turkey season and it is my main app now. Best option I’ve tried for our local areas.

I’ve been using Huntstand for a few years now and I just personally prefer it over OnX. I did try to give OnX a fair shake last year but kept going back to Huntstand. Possibly more of a familiarity thing. To me it’s kind of like an iOS vs Android thing.

What is the issue with HS offline maps? I’ve used them before and didn’t notice anything wrong.

Last day for a 40% off onX. I used hunt stand last year and OnX before. Hunt stand just felt a little more difficult to use than OnX. I felt like Hunt stand had more options, but a little less user friendly to me.
Btw last day promo is ELITEMOM40 for onX. Only works if you have an expired account or new if I recall. Can add a Year.

For me I can only get the default google hybrid map to load offline. It won't load the property owner maps, mapbox, or monthly sats, which are the three I usually use.

I didn't spend a ton of time on it though so it could certainly be a me problem, but if there is a solution there it should be a lot more intuitive.

Wow you like SF that much? You got me thinkin’ But why?
I like the maps better and to me the general operation of it in the field just seems more intuitive. As they continue to build out that platform, I think it will be a significantly better or at least the potential for it seems to be there. That's not a nock on OnX, I have not had any significant issues with it at all.
