OOAL new product (The BOB)

i gotcha. I’ve never hung a “seat” with a platform at ground level. I just hunker down with a foam pad and wait.

I get where @Fuse Dude is coming from.

I tend to climb or track, but it's popular in the mountains I hunt for still hunters to pause and sit awhile in areas of interest.

A tree seat has some upside. It's easier to adjust/shoot a bow than hunkered on the ground. It's gives you a level seat, which may not be the case if hunkered on the ground. Back cover is integrated so long as the tree is big enough, no pre-planned setup required. Maybe, you're more visible to other hunters too, for safety.

If you've got a platform anyway, but want to pause and sit in a spot but not commit to climbing a tree, it only takes a minute to set up.

You'd want a really good pad to sit on the OOAL platforms though. I don't know if the RR is is deep enough, maybe someone else can chime in.

I’ve owned a few Ridge Runners. Tried sitting on them at ground level once or twice. It’s not impossible but you don’t have much depth to it at all so you’re “on the edge of your seat” the entire time and that gets exhausting after while. It’s ok in a pinch but I would look at other options if you wanted a more comfortable seat at ground level personally.

Y’all are killing me… Every response I come check this thread thinking the dang new thang will be here…but it ain’t, so I thought I’d contribute to the confusion, lol.

Carry on and someone hurry OOAL up!

;)

...But, a nice thing about OOAL is they usually have products to sell not long after they are announced officially. Once we find out what this BOB is, probably you won't have to wait long to put your hands on one.

I certainly don't count the RR2 out. Matt's added some innovative features to an already nice platform.

It's just that he kind of suggested it might come in closer to the original on weight.

I already have a RRxl, and a pack that it fits in, and for the extra pound I like the extra size. But I see this as a winner over the o.g.RR.
If you’re ever bored and have your RRXl and .5 out at the same time a couple comparison pictures of them together would be sweet! Haha

I was curious if the room comparison even though the .5 is bigger. With the cables what it compares to the rrxl

Not a problem. May have to wait until Sunday though, but I’ll get some pics for ya.

Sorry for the wait, ski season.

Here's a first batch, with the .5 cables running over the RRxl receiver buttons.

Thanks for taking the time to do that! That kinda what I assumed it would look like. Looks like super comparable on usable space. Really trying hard to talk myself out of a .5 for next season. The Rrxl seems to offer the same room and no cables to get into your way. I don’t seem myself needing the seat on the .5 so it’s hard to buy a 500$ for a platform if that makes sense.

This isn’t BOB and may be old news, but this ridge runner 2.0 looks pretty slick.
It is nice but weighs a full pound more than the OG for no extra real estate. Definitely looks like it packs down really nice and if it bites into the tree anywhere near as well as the original it’ll be an all star in my book

Wow I didn’t realize how close the XL is to the .5. I had the .5 before and really liked the foot room but wasn’t a fan of how bendy the seat and post was. Also wasn’t liking how it was quickly cutting through the strap and backpack straps after only 3 hunts. Love the concept of the whole thing but I felt like those were issues I didn’t want to put up with from a $500 stand. I was really close to buying a RRXL once before. I may have to revisit this again after seeing this comparison.

Thanks for posting those photos!

That’s what I’m thinking! Same room and 300$ less. Don’t need the seat anyways. Wonder if u could add a second strap to it. Depending on how well it bites to the tree. Don’t have any experience with that style of attachment

Mr Plebe, I have to admit I’m confused. Hoping you can clear something up for me. I read somewhere that the new ridge runner has more room. Doesn’t the post get in the way? My point is doesn’t the cam style attachment allow you full use of the platform? Also turning for a weak side shot on the rrxl should be pretty easy right? Thanks again btw!

Maybe if you go from the tip of the stand off on the .5. But I agree I was surprised at how close it was. That just goes to show you numbers don’t always tell the whole story

Thanks for the pictures. But I’m not seeing 9” there….

The specs on their respective websites:
LWCG: 23” deep
RRXL: 14” deep

????
I’m assuming it’s how they measure. OOAL probably measure to the start of the back of the platform standing space. Then LWCG probably measure to almost to the teeth.

The RR 2.0 will have more foot (toe) room than the original.

The 2.0 standoff adds distance behind where the o.g. bracket goes vertical. Because it's a skinnier post, feet can extend on either side and toes get more real estate. I think this is an improvement to the RR.

But, one thing I like about the XL, is there is no post to work around. You get all platform. This separates the RRxl from other XL options, where despite XL size a post can interfere with movement (turning for a shot).

In the no shame thread I mentioned once that I’ve owned the RR (regular size) 3 different times now. And yes I did just sold the 3rd one again recently lol.

I just am now giving ROS a try and spent some time with the set I just got today and have to say I really like it. However I do see myself missing a platform. So it may be time to try the RRXL since it is the middle ground between a hang on tree stand and something super small like the ROS (in my opinion anyway).

To answer your question, the cam over style of the RR is pretty cool. I would not say it’s as tight biting to the tree like a post style platform is, but it worked pretty well for me on most trees. The problem I had with it is that once in a while it would want to tilt over on me if I put too much side pressure on it. I think this was mostly due to not being tight enough on the tree and seemed like trees with real thick spongy bark (like a walnut for example) it also would do this sometimes. That was always in the back of my mind and always bothered me. So that’s why I kept changing my mind, buying and then selling again.

But with the XL, I see myself likely standing on it 95% of the time, so kind of seems like I might not have that side pressure problem with that platform. That’s mainly why I’m tempted to give the XL a try. Also still considering the RR2. I don’t know what I want to do, if anything right now. We’ll see.
