Oplux tether

A few days ago my SIL brought over his platform, new Cruzr saddle and Oplux tether for me to try with y Method saddle. I've hunted the last 2 years out of a JX3 which I love but have expanded my saddle stable with the Method wanting to try different ones. Anyway when I tried his Oplux Tether with a prusik if I was leaning the prusik held great but when I went into a sitting position the pursik would slip. Have any of you had this happen with you? I might need to clarify, I'm 62 years young, at 6 ft and weigh 270. This shocked me when the tether slipped in the sitting position. I was wanting to go to the Oplux tether with a pursik but now I don't feel it is the best option with my weight, I sure wouldn't want it to slip when at climbing height.

Add an additional wrap to the prusik or try a distel hitch friction knot instead of the prusik. The sheath on the oplux is slippery and depending on the accessory cord you're using you'll likely need an extra wrap for it to bite enough under load to prevent from slipping.

They bite a little better as they break in. Is there a reason you wanted oplux instead of a 10 or 11mm rope? Just curious. I see a lot of guys going to oplux but to me it’s not stiff enough and it’s not as strong as the 10mm or 11mm ropes but costs way more.

I’ve never had a slipping issue with trc cord. Are you sure the prusik was the correct size rope and tied right? I sometimes miss my 11mm tether for the ease of handling.

Put amsteel as the connection to the saddle…you’ll be lucky to get it broken!!!

You are Absolutely correct sir! It’s funny how tightly amsteel can bite down.
It is also nice when the right friction hitch is used and allows it to slip and grip properly! ;)

Try rotating the eyes 180 degrees before clipping, or add another wrap, or loosen the cover by removing a little core and trapping the slack in the middle of the cord.

sounds like one or two more wraps will have it holding. I tied a distel once that did the same thing to me. added two wraps, and problem solved.

The tether was one my SIL has purchased from Wildedge steps. He has used it for multiple sits. I do believe the issue might have been the way the pursik was tied something didn’t look right with it. I tried to redress it which helped but it seemed really slick on the oplux rope. It would only slip when in a vertical position with me sitting in the saddle. I like the Tethered tether with the no knot loop I believe it’s 10.5 mm which I also like.

Just ordered an opux tether from Latitude with a schwabich hitch. Hopefully this will hold giving me more comfort as to safety than the one my SIL had I tried. If not I can try a different friction hitch but I believe it will work well.

What is the diameter of the rope you are using for the prusik?

I will be tethering with a Stirling Canyon C-IV line. At 9mm, it will be a bit thicker than your oplux, but still thinner than the 11mm lines many are using.

I have 5mm and 7mm cord for my prusiks. I will be hanging off a ropeman1 though; perhaps that is an option for you as well?

Update: the Tether I ordered with the schwabich hitch works great. I've only gotten to hang with it one time but it held great. I made sure it was dressed properly, set it then put weight on it with no slippage. Can't wait until my hip replacement is done and I can get back to working with the saddle.
