OpLux with friction hitch options

Just fixed up beal cordlette in a distel hitch on oplux. Does everything look Ops Normal? I tested in yard on the ground. It seemed to hold, I will dress down the pochers knots and use a dano tender in the middle of the carabiner knots.

Is there a rule/guideline on how far the carabiner should be from the tether or is that one of those adjust for comfort type things?

From the tether? As in "how long is my hitch/prusik cord"? I say as close as possible.

Updated pictures from the stand yesterday. Yes, it’s still warm and green in Hawaii. Not really topic related but I also tested out a 24” Sterling strap for a bridge. I don’t mind Amstel but I’m not a fan of the fixed bridge.

I’ll be freezing on the east coast tomorrow, looking forward to it!

The cold can definately get the deer moving. They have gotta stay warm somehow. Good luck and thanks again for sharing all the hitch options. I have experimented with all of them and still am doing so.

So, I’ve tried the distel with my TRC and oplux. Looks right to me unloaded but it sort of goes to crap when loaded. It does hold.
Have I not dressed it out right? Anyone point me to where I’m going wrong? When all 250 lbs of Secret AgentMan loads a prusik, it locks up bad and oplux wants to pull through with a klemheist.
All at ground level, thus far.

Is the oplux and trc new? I had some trouble with it slipping when it was new but after I worked it back and forth some it bit really well. I run a shorter piece of trc than you to keep the hitch closer to my caribiner. I like a longer bridge so it's not uncommon for me to have my hitch up against near the tree.

My primary hand grab is a toothed ascender (photo). These don't seem to sever the cover the cover on ropes like the RM1.
I also have tried a Primal step as a handgrab which worked well but is an additional thing to carry.
I need the Petzl ascender to get up the tree anyway so it serves double duty.
What is the primary hand grab for?

Brand spankin’

I will shorten it up in order to put a little more length on those poacher knot tails.

One issue I have is the length of the Beal jammy, even the 35cm, tied in a prusik just messes up my geometry (angle fo comfort on tether and birdge) in a way that using the Kong Duck does not. Any suggestions? I’d like to stick with a friction hitch for safety and silence but just can’t based on comfort.

I just read back through this thread and I believe folks were saying that @DanO was selling the Beal cordelette (I believe rope alone) in cut sections. Idk if he still is but that would give you the freedom to shorten if necessary.

He does sell it, and I’ve bought some, but I’m also not one to love the knots I would end up with there. It’s not a safety issue, and those other hitches honestly are better applications for our purposes (on the tether) than the prusik, I just like the cleanliness of the sewn jammy.

Has anyone used Oplux 8mm off spec to repel with using a mad rock safe guard. How much smaller does the Oplux pack compared to the HTP 9mm

I use the madrock safeguard with the oplux on my rappel rope. It works and I back it up with TRC tied into a distel hitch on my right side connected to my lineman loop. Is that necessary...I don't believe so, but I want to back it up.
