Ordered a Dryad Drey Yesterday!

I really like the idea. I'm always looking for something to give my back more support due to injury. My question is does it really offer back support or is it more just like a.fleece saddle allowing ur back/spine to more contour to the shape of the material vs having something more ridged like jx3 or a dedicated back rest like the 1 u guys may have seen me show in various other back band related threads?

I have the drey and 2TC system so I will try this soon and try to take a short video just so you get an idea. Not an expert on 2TC but you’ll get an idea for it.

as far as back support, that’s where the drey shines to me. You don’t need to pull it all the way over your shoulders either. There are basically 2 small prusiks attached to either side of the hammock tied on the hammock bridge. When you slide these forward you are basically raising the recliner for back support. When you loosen these back towards the hammock you recline back more. It works really well.

I was able to try one yesterday at the TN. Meet up. It was quite and comfortable.
Torn between ordering the complete saddle system, or the retrofit to my Recon.

I thought you had an interesting set up with your back brace?

I got something that works good but just a little problematic to carry in.... I'm always looking for improvements
So I have hyperlordosis in my back, deteriorating C2 & C7 and a twisted hips as a result of pretty serious, boating, car, and snowboarding accidents so needless to say back pain is a huge issue for me and I used to just have to deal with the pain. Moving to a two panel saddle was a huge help but the Drey offers unmatched support. It’s by far the most comfortable I’ve ever been in a tree.

I ordered the full kit. I have a basically new TX5 (MFG in March) with all the goodies, never been in the woods just tested at home, if I like the Dryad better it will being going up for sale. I still get stiffness in my middle back due to Stemcell BMT, I am hoping thr Dryad will be even better than the TX5, only one way to find out so I bit the bullet and ordered.

I haven't posted in this thread about the Drey, but I just got mine and it's the most comfortable saddle I've sat in....with no hip pinch. Like @Zero One Actual , I'm interested in how everyone is storing ropes. I am planning to 1-stick with the hammock deployed and trying to figure out where I'm going to store my rappel rope and linemen rope (need this for when I have to detach my tether to cross limbs). Right now, my plan is to store my rappel rope in my backpack that I plan to climb with and attach my daisy chained linemen rope to my lineman loop (i have the version with the linemen loops).....but if anyone has any better ideas how to store/access ropes, I'm all ears.

Made a no-sew DIY drey for around $15 :) its sweet.

2 yards of this stuff - https://ripstopbytheroll.com/products/1-6-oz-hyperd-woodland-camo , after doing a bit of research ripstop by the roll says this is some of their quietest material, might even be the same as the drey for all I know - they have a color option like the drey.

tie a knot on each end, and make an adjustable Amsteel bridge.

Certainly not the drey because it doesn’t have the adjustable back support..but you can’t beat the price! I’ve been using it with a RCH.

You could make a little Fanny pack and use it with your regular hunting saddle. Rip stop by the roll is awesome. The material running against itself is quiet, it’s the wind flapping sound that I worry about. Did you get the 1.7 oz mountain or the 1.6 oz hyper material? You can even get that orange amsteel from rip stop by the roll for cheap. If you do sew it, use 69 or 92 tex thread and triple stitch the seams.

I have been experimenting with a small (cheap) fanny pack that I wear backwards on my stomach area (not completely sold on the idea yet). It holds my repel rope, gear hanger(s), GriGri/Madrock, and carabiners. If I get in a "tight spot" while climbing, I have my repel gear at the ready. I have been wearing my lineman's rope like you described....daisy chained off my left loop. Clarification: I plan to use this setup is for one sticking!

Have fun and be safe!

What about a Fanny pack you wear up front or maybe cargo pockets on your pants? Then when you are at height put everything in your pack so it isn’t in your pockets. I was visualizing an actual front Fanny pack you can wear and access while sitting or leaning in it but it won’t create bulk on your sides while the drey is deployed.

I got the exact link i put there - 1.6oz hyperD in woodland camo.

I actually purchased the stuff last year with aspirations of making the OG hammock saddle posted on the forum but didn’t get around to it. The drey gave me fresh inspiration to get it off the shelf and see what I could come up with. Didn’t have high expectations but after sitting in it and realizing it was more comfortable than any saddle I’ve had, I’ve been giving it more serious consideration.

I might doctor it up with a friend who can sew and I’ve got ideas for how to make it so that it has some back support, but this is redneck hammock version 1.0 you are seeing and it honestly works quite well as is.

Perhaps wind could make noise..will see!
