Oval Quick Link - Why Is It Safe?

I don’t one stick or SRT but would this method make any sense on a regular tether instead of girth hitching it through itself like I normally do? Just be a bit faster since I wouldn’t have to bring the extra rope through itself and that’s about it? Thanks for schooling me up.

Do u climb using ur tether? How long is ur tether?
Personally I don't use the tether climbng unless I encounter a branch or need to stop and relax for a moment. With a 8-10ft it's probably quicker to pull it thru and girth vs unscrew and tighten the quick link.

Man I prefer climbing with a tether that I girth hitch on itself. I only break out the repel rope when it is time for me to get down, and I bought one of the SS carabiners from Sterling at the same time I bought the repelling rope. Here are the stats:

I find it easier to one-stick using my tether girth hitched around the tree, but I always use my rappel rope instead. If my stick kicks out, I drop my stick, or any other unplanned event occurs, I can bail out of the tree with a simple pull on the lever of my Safeguard. Climbing back up to that point on the tree is then a short SRT away.

I do the exact same as you do. I have an eight foot oplux tether.

I haven't timed it but I would bet pulling a short tether thru the loop is faster. My tether is 35 foot and it stays in a pouch off my saddle. I climb with linesman. I pull out as much as I need for tethering into the tree and the rest I leave in the pouch. When it's time to go I reconfigure my ropes to rappel mode and descend.. the tether/rappel rope auto feeds out of the pouch until I got the ground

I use a delta link with my tether because I climb using steps and both lineman's and tether above as a backup. I use the delta link to get around limbs quickly.
