Pac Seat Review

@Petrichor - X2 thanks for sharing. I bought a PacSeat a couple of years ago long before the price increase (and I still thought it was expensive for what it is.) But I like supporting small businesses that offer made in USA products, so I bought it and never looked back - happy to support a guy making a unique product, one at a time, in his home shop. It's great to hear that he's got additional help now and is increasing the scale of his operation. It's also great to hear that as he increases the scale of production, he's still solidly standing behind his product.

My PacSeat has been excellent for those spots that aren't conducive to saddle hunting. It's also great for using when I want to be super-stealthy in a wooded area and slip in for a quick & silent setup. It offers much better comfort for extended sits than sitting on a log, stump, or a bucket - and it's light as a feather when it's on my back when I'm scouting for sign. I personally haven't had any issues with the product, but it's great to read about the excellent customer service David Waldrop provides if & when you do.

It looks like the website was updated recently. It didn't have pictures of the turkey seat a couple of weeks ago, but does now. Also the pack sac is up.

Final thought. Is it worth 350 shipped? Socratic method. How much was your saddle and climbing method? How much do they weigh together? Can you use them without a tree? Can either of them (the saddle or climbing method) pack out meat other than JX3? Congrats you just answered your own question. It’s worth the 350.

Thanks @kobudo! Love this idea. Didn't know it had been released though. $45 seems steep. Bet you could fashion up the same thing from a chicken feed bag or a pillowcase like @Nutterbuster uses.

Nice review, and I have to say the customer support you got through the process was top notch. These Pac Seats have been calling to me, and I can foresee a day when I will possibly be hunting off the ground exclusively. Since I do hunt some with trad equipment and feel that trad is just more at home on the ground anyway, this is a very attractive option. I have done some ground hunting and had some fun encounters. It is definitely doable.

I wanted to pick your brain on something you mentioned in post #3. You mentioned you were seeing more deer. Can you elaborate on why that might be happening off the ground? I have some theories, but I would like your take on it. Thanks.

Probably a variety of reasons, all are just theories. I am able to change locations easier, less setup time and noise, can easily move as wind changes. I feel that your just more nimble to conditions. Less noise on walk in. Scent cone is smaller on ground. I really don’t know what to attribute it to.

I know if a spot wasn’t working out in my climber or saddle. It was a lot of noise and time to change locations. I also felt in a climber I needed to select a really good tree. I’d find good sign but not necessarily a good tree near it. So I am able now to hunt pretty much wherever on the ground.

This is pretty much exactly what I was thinking and have seen from my experience on the ground. With ground hunting I can hunt the hot sign, and not hunt for a good tree to get in. It's definitely something I plan to do more of.

No sir. Only have the regular version.
Oh, ok, I was thinking you had a regular version and then just got a turkey variant. I know the turkey type is new so there won't be much in the way of hunting reviews yet. I just wonder which would be the better overall option.

I have a prototype pack sack. Can't remember if I got it last season or the season before.

It works well. Simple design that does what it says it does. It's a little large for a typical osceola doe, but I think the intention was to make it capable of hauling bigger game (elk). You can wedge it and a kill kit in between the seat mesh and paracord lashing and it fits tight and snug.

I'm not sure if new seat models are different or if the sack comes with longer pins, but you'll want longer Clevis pins since it attaches where the shoulder straps do. I bought a couple of longer pins that had multiple holes drilled from the local hardware store.

This thing has performed well around the house this summer as my regular "Papa's chair". First sit of the season will be tomorrow morning though. Hope to report back some good news.

I ordered one in the first week of August when they had them on sale and was shocked when it shipped that week, I’d heard the lead time was long and didn’t know about the business changes. I’m impressed by the build quality.

I strapped a Predator Pack and Eberlestock Large Accessory pouch on the molle. I plan to use Voile straps to mount my tube quiver on the back/leg.

I’ve already scouted a few places where there just isn’t good options for trees, this and a sapper killsuit I think are my answer. When I’m doing afternoon in season scouting I think I’m primarily going to be carrying this seat instead of a stick and saddle.

I’m really interested using this seat, and white killsuit, in late season. When it’s 10 degrees it’s just cold as **** climbing up and down trees, it’s always most sketchy coming down and packing up since I always stay in the tree too late. This seems more like, stand up and start walking.

Got out today with my pac seat and I’m glad I didn’t part ways with it.
I like using it to pack my bow on long walks in

Hard to see in the pick. How did you attach the quiver to the side?
