Packless setup

I’m not sure why you wouldn’t want a back pack. Just get a smaller one. It is the best for being streamlined. I have 4 I can use for hunting but have 8 in total. I think I need every one for different situations. The one I use the most is a very small badlands reactor. When I’m in a tree, the last thing I want is a ton of junk in the trunk!

I have a couple different setups....backpack, fannypack, and a vest. The fanny and backpack I had cut a hole and added a grommet for the Doyle's hoist......untie the rope or strap and put it through the grommet so the hoist was inside the pack. That works good but if you like to change things around it was a pain untying the Doyle's to switch between packs. With the fleece pouch u can remove the metal clip, thread the rope/strap through the hole in the bottom of the pouch, and attach to anything u want without having the untie/tie the Doyle's everytime....and the fleece deadens the noise it makes also
I see. I have been running mine on my saddle so that thought never crossed my mind but I may be changing to putting it in a pack depending on my setup. Thanks for the info.

I look at the backpack thread and can’t believe how much some people feel they need to carry with them. But then again I don’t use sticks and I do not require snacks or reading material while hunting. I have a fanny pack to carry my climbing system (4 wild edge steps & 5 step aider). But other than that I can get everything I NEED in my sys Es hauler (range finder, drag strap/emergency step, milkweed, havalon, rite in the rain pen, tiny ptec headlamp, EZ kut pruners) and sys hauler holds my tether, lineman belt. Bino’s stay on my chest and my perch clips on my caritool at my hip and fastened to my thigh with bungee cord. When it gets cold I have a Kuiu stalker 500 which is tiny. Its supposed to be used as a hydration pack, but its just enough to strap clothes to. I think if you already have presets there should be no reason to have a backpack. Good luck! part of the fun is tuning in your system.

also have danOs Doyle’s hoist pouch in the centered on the back of my saddle

I know for me I purchased a 37 liter pack recently because I wanted shoulder and waist straps and the ability to strap 4 climbing sticks and a tree suit platform to it. Unless I'm packing in layers, I'll probably only use 15 liters of internal storage.

Anybody going more minimal than this? Didn’t include worn gear like binos, RF, beanie etc.

Got my eye on a marsupial gear bino pouch though, chest storage looks handy.

On another note, has anybody seen pouches like GI sustainment pouches but 10% smaller, or with internal dividers/pockets?

Instead of a backpack, I carried this in early season a couple of years ago:

It worked well for just the essentials, and you can wear it like a fanny pack or a shoulder/sling bag.

Going to a satchel this year. Love it so far. Helikon-Tex Bushcraft satchel. Wrote a review here: https://saddlehunter.com/community/index.php?threads/satchel-ditch-that-pack.25953/

Thanks for the tip on the H-T Bushcraft satchel. I tried it out last year along with several backpacks, and seem to always go back to the H-T. Love that I can swing it on my back or in front of me when climbing up to access whatever I may need. Thanks for the review and tip!!!

Kifaru makes all different size pouches for the molle system. I’m sure some one will attach a pack lid to their saddle here shortly. Shoot , I bet you could rig a Kifaru pack lid to a suspenders/backpack deal if you have the creativity.

Which 1? The long 1 that has integrated waist belt or the 1 that is taller and deeper?

Here's my stuff....with water in my bottle and a bow/gun in my hand I'm ready to hunt. The thing I disliked about backpack and fanny is I would always seem have to take it off to get to anything and kneeling at the base of the tree lashing, gear tie, strapping everything into place. With my system I've put together everything I need is accessable without taking anything off. Walk up to tree, set down weapon, and then everything is ready...stirrups are in the butt pouch I can reach behind and easily pull them out...aiders in a shovel pouch right in front on me, doyles I just reach back and there it is platform is easy on and off....also I have everything put away before I hit the ground and then I just gotta pull rope down and stuff it in my pouch, pick up weapon and away I go. It's important to think about it as a system

Post #36 ... I use a few different bags, but if I want waterproof, and more space, I bring along that lid.

Am I the only one who climbs with my bow.just a pocket knife and I drag them for miles.im a minimalist.......gear junky

Look, I understand that camo clothing does not kill deer, but for the sake of the children, at least wear clothes from the parking lot for the first mile in. After that MOST people would not judge naked hunting.
