Pant color in the field, which do you choose?

Loden, feldgrau, OD Green, Ranger Green, khaki, etc., were all employed for military uniforms to make it harder to shoot the people wearing those uniforms. Any of them will probably work equally well. In your shoes I'd probably go with a grey or greyish-green like Ranger Green for an all-season all-purpose trousers. I'd avoid browns that approach the shade of deer fur, just to make it harder for drunken Bubba to shoot me by accident.

Most of my hunting pants are Walmart camo, mostly whatever Realtree or Mossy Oak is on sale at the moment. With the firm belief that camo patterns are developed to catch hunters rather than hide from deer, I mix and match and generally wear whatever is at hand when I get dressed. This year I mostly wore a pair of Big Bill wool cargo pants which are a somewhat brighter shade of green than I'd like, but still just fine.

That's a blast from the past. SNL in the early days, original and hilarious.
And the pants would make great hunting gear! Thanks Tom for putting that up.

This is exactly why I hang around the site, great stuff guys. Good mix of sarcasm, cynicism, jokes, YouTube links, and some actual opinions and advice scattered in there too.

Also, I know cheap pants work great that’s all I ever have had too, I just want to pick up one nice pair to see what it’s all about and wear the snot out of. Now that my mind has been fully opened to merino baselayers and I’ve been wearing them for a season with great enjoyment… it’s hard not to wonder what else I’m missing out on in the world of technical hunting apparel

After looking around the woods in late season, and watching deer move through the timber with the leaves off, I opted for coyote color since it seems like that's the predominant choice among wildlife lol. Should be here in a day or two! Maybe if bubba shoots me he will just take out my shins. I mostly hunt remote public or private anyway and generally avoid high-pressure areas. I put out some solid green jackets in the woods last week and the contrast was pretty high in the hardwoods where I hunt this time of year. I figure tan/coyote is a better all season/multi-environment color (out west etc)

And yes, I realized it probably doesn't matter one lick either way success wise but if I feel like I blend in best I am more confident and confidence = kills in my experience

Might want to add some Flo Orange paracord zipper pulls where you can. ;)

As long as they have a cargo pocket on each leg, I really don’t think about my pants when I’m in the field unless there is a seam that starts digging in under my saddle. I bought a couple of pairs of nylon jogging pants for the late season, which I wear over my base bottom. No seams to create hot spots, but something I can wear in public before or after I put on or peal off the outer layers. They work well. A couple of flavors of grey.

I didn’t read through all the post but the US Military before they went to camo utilized OD Green for a reason, it blends into most environments the most. It has a knack of being more green when the surroundings are more green and more brown when they are that. So either Foliage Green or OD Green.
