Patented Cotton

Was that the stuff they used on the backpacks? I thought in a THP podcast they were talking about a fabric Karol came up with?

Idk. I stopped watching/listening to THP. Do you recall if it was somehow more special than say, Pima? PFAS free at least?

What is the gripe with that?

THP have a lot of influence on a large public audience and I’m not down with promoting slinging arrows about.

I know you’ve said it’s how it is in FL with the palmettos and everything you contend with. I’m not telling you how to go about your business.

But I’m not going to support or advocate for blind shooting or taking risky shots . So I stopped watching.

I didn't see that episode. I respect your opinion about this @Plebe and I appreciate your answer. However, I do think these guys are as ethical as its going to get and with the heavy EFOC arrows they use I would think they have some justified reasoning. Please don't mistake that I'm justifying taking risky shots. Not at all. I don't believe they are advocating for that either. I do think with video footage to back them up, they can speak more confidently about those types of shots when that specific kind of scenario may present itself. I don't see much difference in that compared to a bowhunter shooting a "normalized" arrow setup with expendables (see what I did there) having a clear shot to the vitals and missing for whatever reason and hitting a thick shoulder bone by mistake. Not to say that deer wouldn't die but there are always margins that we as ethical bowhunters are subconsciously computing when the moment of truth arrives.

My whole issue with THP now is through no fault of their own and is probably almost an elitist mindset on my part. I've simply lost interest because I don't see them as the young, struggling, average joe hunters they used to be...... because they're not. They've been highly successful and now they're probably doing well and that is great. More power to them. I wish them continued great success. I like them all and believe they are great guys. Ethical hunters and good hunters. I just don't see the remarkableness of their hunts as much as I did before for whatever reason.

Contrast that with Dan Infalt's and Clay Hayes' stuff. Heck even Eberhart's stuff if he actually would hunt I would be very interested in watching...... I'm not sure why I think that way I just do.

I'm curious what others think?

There's a video where Zach took a similar shot on an elk. He took a frontal shot through brush, had no idea where he hit the elk then airmailed another arrow from some much farther distance that centered a tree. He didn't recover the animal. It was frustrating to watch.

I didn't see that episode either. He's kind of a goofball anymore anyway, I think. Greg, Aaron, Jake, Ted., Nick...... I could hunt with all of them. Not so sure about Zach. Look at me contradict myself. Oh well. I know you guys get what I'm saying.

The shot Zach took during the PA Challenge seemed a bit sketchy as well. Another frontal shot (at close range, 3yds so they say). Looks like legal hours, but it is getting dark and that presents some problems. Zach is to the right of the cameraman, so while there appears to be a clear shooting lane, the buck had just passed brush that would possibly still be in Zach’s way. Anyway, it’s not high percentage imo based on the totality of the circumstances.

Zach gets to watch the buck suffer for some hours before it finally expires, but hey he scored on PA public which was the goal.

Crap happens, but nobody forces us to release an arrow. Or publish a video. JMO.

Not a chance. But I also wouldn't tell a student that its only about shot placement. Is shot placement important? Absolutely crucial but it is not the only thing. Not anymore.

I guess I don’t follow. Unless we’re talking pods.

To fill you in more on that hunt where Zach admitted he essentially guessed where the deer’s vitals are. He was being directed to the deer by his cronies who are watching it with binos or a spotting scope from a bluff.

I did watch that episode. You're right. Although it was close, the fact the buck suffered means something happened.
