The factory treated clothing works well, too and may be the solution for you guys in Canada.

Insect Shield brand sells "permenant" permethrin treated clothes...good for over 50 launderings. Insect Shield company will also treat YOUR clothes. Send them your favorite duds and it comes back to you permanently treated. I think they charge by the pound of clothes?? Their treatment of your clothes is also good for over 50 washings.

My buddy owns Elimitick clothes and swears by it. Same thing...good for 50+ washings.

I have pants from Rail Rider...also permanently treated. Rail Rider makes some really nice outdoor clothes but I don't know if they make camo stuff.

Dave is right on with this post! Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. It is amazing how this disease can affect people and for how long. I'd rather take on a mountain lion with my bare hands than have Lyme disease again.....it's the real deal folks, don't take any chances. I don't care if permethrin smelled like skunk, and cut my hunting success by 50%, I'd use it anyway....this stuff works. However, as it has been mentioned there are two different formulations and one has a strong oil smell.....the other does not. The last brand that I used was in the pet department at TSC called Happy Jacks Kennel Dip.

I have a bigger fear of Lymes than I have of any (blown out of proportion) issue with permethrin.

If permethrin can't be shipped to Canada, that's why I suggested that Canada hunters may want to buy pre treated clothes. They work well.
I sometimes use factory treated clothes from Rail Riders and they work well, but I mostly wear clothes I treat myself...but this is the USA...I can buy the stuff here. Canada guys may have to buy factory permethrin clothes...and Canada guys, ya gotta stop voting for tree huggers:)

They sell it. Almost all household fly spray has it as an ingredient. They do not sell sawyers that I know of

I can buy straight permethrin with my pesticide licence too

Most types of raid have it as an ingredient. I would buy it off amazon

I think health Canada does not allow sawyers here. Yet it is all our fly sprays. Go figure

Although I'm cutting my own solution (Martins 36.8%) for my clothes this year I think the next time I buy a new set of hunting clothes I'm shipping them to Insect Shield. I got an Outdoor Research hat that is treated and I notice a huge difference when I have that on. I think they want $10/garment and state that it's good for like 70(?) washings? Regardless of how many times I wear it I treat my light stuff once a month but your heavy stuff? I'm almost certain that in the 10 years I've owned by heavy weight stuff that I may wash it 4 times a year. After a decade of heavy bush hunting it's usually toast and I'm replacing it. I think it's a fair price to keep those bad nasties off of me because it only takes one missed application...
 
Just a heads up on Sawyer containers...
The pump spray bottles are the worst. You'll develop carpal tunnel syndrome from pumping the pieces of crap.

So on vacation, I decided to buy the aerosol can. Well, it leaked like hell around where the button inserts into the can. I had permethrin running down the can, on my hands, and dripping on the ground. I wasted a lot of chemical. I will be contacting Sawyer as soon as I can. I'm very happy with the effectiveness of Sawyer premixed permethrin but I've had several bad experiences with Sawyer containers.
My best advice...buy concentrate and use your own better quality spray bottle.
 
Tom - I've had the same problem with the aerosol before and have been using the spray bottle for the last few years - but - the other day they had a larger aerosol can that was cheaper - based on how many clothes it would do - than the spray bottle and I bought a can. Haven't used it yet but Will see if it works or not....

I think this IS the large can that you refer to. I've seen Sawyer aerosol for years, but I can't recall ever seeing a can this large.
I'd say Sawyer owes me a new can or a refund.

Yes that's the one I bought - doggone it I knew from past history the aerosol cans did exactly what yours did...Will see what happens with the can I bought...

Tom - I'm now on my second can of sawyers permethrin and can report back - the first can I had no problems with but the second one did like yours in the pic....The only reason I can think of that was different about the second can is I did more constant spraying, keeping the nozzle pressed for longer, on the second can. The first can I sprayed in swipes kinda like you would do a regular spray paint can. Not sure if that made any difference but its all I did different between the two cans...I like the spray but don't like it to end up this way....

I'm not sure what caused the nozzles to leak, but there is one thing I am sure of...
I'm completely dissatisfied with the response from Sawyer, which was a ZERO response. I sent them photos and a full description of the incident and why it wasn't feasible to return to the place of purchase for a refund.

Sawyer’s is plenty strong at its low concentration. Season opened Sunday at 90 degrees with 85% humidity. Followed a deer trail into some brush, got 3 ticks on me, watched them die before I could flick them off. Washed those clothes (36 hours after applying Permethrin), found another dead tick in the washing machine. Went out tonight wading through switchgrass, came out chigger-free from an area where I got covered in them at the same time 2 years ago when I forgot to apply Sawyers.
In short, that sh!+ works, quite well.
 
Love me some permethrin. I spray on all my gear and outer clothes. I dont use on my base layers but I use deep woods off on those when I'm getting dressed. Tarps, hammock, all my bags and other gear. It's good stuff. Lyme disease is no joke. You don't always get a bullseye rash so don't think you're safe if you don't get one.
 
Regarding safety of permethrin: it's the active ingredient in over-the-counter lice treatment. 1% concentration, where the pre-mixed spray is 0.5%.
If it's safe enough to rub on a child's head, it's safe enough for me... Also, as a pharmacisit, I see 5% permethrin cream used all the time from head to toe for scabies.
I spray all my clothes down with the diluted stuff that I make from the 10%. (no petroleum additives) 6 ounces per gallon in a 2 gallon garden sprayer. Not a single tick or mosquito bite last week prepping sites for the kids.
