Yikes Ernie! I still haven't done an ultrabeast or even a hurricane heat. lol...to tell you the truth, with the pricing of these Spartans continuing to go up, I'm looking at smaller races. Bonefrog, FITchallenge (local...AMLAP (as many laps as possible)), etc and being 50....I'm happy to let you 'youngins' knock yourself out. lol
I saved some money by buying a trifecta pass with a $100 off coupon. So I only paid $200 for three races. Then I used a 30% off coupon for the ultra. It still was expensive though.

I would love to come out east and run a bone frog. They look fun. I did a battle frog a couple of years ago before they stopped. I liked the mandatory completion aspect of that race.

@Erniepower I've heard rubmlings of battlefrog making a comeback. it was a hugely popular race, that they killed to focus on the TV series which failed.

There is nothing wrong with eating healthy during the week. It is hard. It took me a while to change. I started by eating well tues and thursday all day for about 3 weeks. Then switched to Mon, wed, Fri a another 3 weeks. Then Mon - Fri. You can cheat on the weekends, just do not over due it. Now I do not even think about it.
I tried for a month. Cut down my portions. Tried to eat better food. No snacks in between. Walked most mornings. Lost a few pounds but held there. Wasn't enough to be worth the sacrifice.
My best routine was when I commercial crawfished. Eat breakfast on the truck ride. On the water at day break with only a poweraid. Lift traps till about 2. Unload the boat and sell crawfish. Eat what ever for an early supper. Lost weight fast. To busy to get hungry. Enjoyed every minute of it and made money. But that was only 3 times a week for 4-5 months. Between lifting traps and shooting bows, my elbows are tore up. Ahhh but that was the good ole bachelor days! I wouldn't trade my life now for anything but glad I gave it hell when I could. Headed back to Louisiana this weekend and gonna put a hurt on some boiled crawfish. I'll think about dieting again on Monday! lol

It’s no good white! I always cover my white bread with peanut butter, jelly, butter, mustard, ketchup.
White rice, oh man, got to have some brown gravy and smothered onions over that for it to be good, icecreme is always better with fudge or some kind of syrup. Alcohol, well..... I need to change my lifestyle
Yes I do believe I would have to just get fat before I would ever give up eating white rice.! And gravy is a must!! My wife's family from up North always freaks out about how much rice we eat. I went to the store in Pennsylvania and bought a 5 lb bag of rice, and she asked me if I was planning on having enough rice to eat for the next two years. I said "I planned on cooking supper this week, and will eat all this in a week". I thought she was going to have a cow right there in the kitchen. I don't think I hardly know how to cook a meal without rice. Needless to say since I've been up there and cooked a few times they eat a lot more rice. I left her with a few recipes!

we try to sub in quinoa for rice when ever possible. but then again...never was a 'white rice' kinda guy. occasionally we still have it in jambalaya, or have pilaf with chicken. but thats it.

I have been doing KETO and IF since August. my results:

weight: started at 237 - today 203
body fat from 27% to 16% two weeks ago
Blood pressure from 140s/high 80s to 114/74 this morning
I am off my CPAP
I no longer get migraines and allergy medication not needed
just about off synthrex
I lift three times a week and do cardio (HIIT, Tabata 2 x a week)
Daily walking

My ultimate goal is to be 180 by Hunting season - cannot even imagine how easier hunting will be at that weight..... cant wait to find out!
Wow good for you.

I used to be a gym rat 3-4 days a week doing weights and cardio until I got my new job and shifting hours a new house and just couldn’t get to the gym, plus I was having some lower back muscle issues that running only made worse. Spent 6 months doing PT lots of stretching and yoga. Then 3 months ago I started doing the PX90-3 workout dvds and I will never go to the gym again. For only 30 minutes a day at home these workouts are some of the best I’ve ever done incorporating body weight strength training, cardio and best of all balance and flexibility, the latter two being extremely important once you hit 40. I would highly recommend them especially if you are short on time. I’m fortunate that with my job I’m out hiking all day 3x week but at my age just over 40 its more about maintenance through core strength flexibility and balance which pays off big time in injury prevention.
I used to be overweight and the first thing I did was stop drinking soda and went to just water, no sugary or diet sugary drinks either and I lost a ton of weight off that and have stayed that way for 20 years. I don’t believe in diets you have to change your lifestyle. I eat foods that are real and fresh and stay away from processed foods. I have a huge garden with lots of greens and we eat wild game or locally raised meat. Most people get sick and are on medication because they eat crappy food like chips, soda and mcdonalds and they don’t realize how much like crap they are feeling. I’ve found that by eating healthy that fresh foods taste way better, I can eat as much as I want and there’s no issues when I do want an occasional hot fudge sundae and I’m not on any medication and barely get sick. Plus I drastically improve my chances of still being able to hunt hard well into my 70’s, my father is proof of that.

I’ve tried the gym. I just get bored lifting a weight just to lift it over and over again. I’d rather hit a punching bag or chop wood. I’ve been downing plenty trees over the last year. Good work out, then you can look back and actually look at what you killed your self on. I get a sense of accomplishment from it. Wish I enjoyed the gym. This post inspired me get in better shape. Just not sure how I’ll go about it yet. Gonna start eating better starting today. Need to trim this gut down. Too old to worry about looking good. I can careless about muscle build. Just want to feel better and fit clothes better.

My daughter and I went to a park this weekend and they have a rock climbing wall. $5 to climb all day. We had an absolute blast. I couldn't agree more with @swampsnyper that going to a gym and lifting weights is the pits. I think Madelynn and I will be spending more time at the park.

I would rather do physical work too. Cutting wood is great for core, and even cardio. Cutting wood and shoveling snow are two of the most common ways for people to have a heart attack. So they must be good for the heart. I try to cut wood a several hours per week because I heat a barn, shop and house with it.
That said, I do exercise my legs muscle every day because of knee issues. Strong legs... less knee pain.
I try to walk several KM everyday as well or ride my bike for miles. I like to do that with my wife. Sometimes our walks are in the bush, I scout for hunting spots and she looks for sheds.
Diet... I have been 5 foot 10 and 200 pounds for 20 years... I think it would be better if I was 180 pounds but I like ice cream, potatoes, gravy, pie, steak... and I hate salad. So everything in moderation especially the stuff that taste great... bacon.
A gym... well I guess I find it boring too.

A rock climbing wall is fantastic exercise. We have a climbing wall in our shed that our kids used to use. We also had a hockey rink in the shed. Way more fun than going to the gym. I used to love playing hockey. Picking stones... good exercise but like a gym boring... I guess I will be doing that this spring again.

I took up hunting 5 years ago to replace hockey. Both are good exercise.

I just got permission from my friend, whose 40 acre farm I'm allowed to hunt, to go ahead and lay down some trees for screening and funneling in the small wood plot. I think I'm going to go out with an axe, for some of it. Chopping is one heck of a work out!

I have to confess. I recently bought a log splitter! Lmao!!!
I got a stack of trees that I haven’t even got cut into logs yet. I can’t keep up with an axe. I got to where I couldn’t sleep at night from my elbows hurting from chopping wood. I’ll still bust some easy straight grain ones but the log splitter gets the bulk of the work. And it’s still a good work out. Lifting logs and stacking wood still gets the heart rate up.

We done rock climbing on an Arkansas vacation one year. I loved it. Excellent workout too. Been on a few artificial walls since.

What’s some healthy meals anyone would like to suggest. I’m not a soda drinker. I always hear of people losing lots of weight just buy getting off sodas. Wish it could be that simple. All I drink is water. Always have. A coke if we go eat out occasionally. A few beers on the weekend if I’m cooking outside.
I’m about to start my garden. Not a big veggie man. Usually give it all away. I just like doing it. So how about some ideas on what you grow? Maybe I’ll find something I enjoy.
At my last house, I raised chickens and rabbits. I’ll do chickens again once I finish this house but got tired of eating rabbits. We don’t do fast food often unless we are on the road. I like cooking but it’s usually fried food or some kind of gravy over rice or mash potatoes. Bread, rice and potatoes is my biggest problem. It’s hard to think of a meal without them.

I cut wood but use a splitter because of my shoulder issues. But I do run a chainsaw, pickup 100 pound blocks of body wood, put them on the splitter. Stack the wood and move it several times. is great. I cut and split and stack about 60 or 70 face cord per year.
Rock climbing is also something I cannot do anymore because of my shoulder. Just commenting on it because it was mentioned and I still have a wall in my shed from the days when my kids were young.
I guess my point is exercise that is fun or productive...even picking rocks or splitting wood on a splitter or stacking it or running a chain saw are all great. I do most of these things.... Swinging an axe would be brutal for one of my shoulders. Lifting a 100 pound block on a splitter is zero problem. Lifting over my head forget it. Running on my knees... not possible. Walking miles on soft ground great. Riding a bike for miles or a stationary bike... zero problems and I do it.

Get the Best of Cooking Light cookbook don’t be deceived by the title this stuff is good been using it for years. I cook a lot with chicken thighs because they are always juicy usually coat with olive oil lemon juice and rosemary and grill, will throw on fresh asparagus coated in olive oil and kosher salt. I like one pot meals and simple things that don’t take forever. I grow a lot of butternut squash and just dice it up coat in olive oil salt pepper and chili powder and bake on cookie sheet till crispy. As you can see with olive oil, kosher salt, lemon juice and a few other items you can cook a lot, fresh farm veges taste good so you don’t need to cover them in sauce. Your better off eating more lean meat and cutting out the rice and potatoes. Try quinoa instead of rice.

Never heard of quinoa. Gonna have to look it up.

Ok I looked it up. I might just keep the gut. It’s not so bad. Lol
lol I eat wild rice with Quinoa in it. Its delicious! if you eat the right rice its not bad for you. Just select the healthy choice for what you like because if you don't like it you wont stick with it. so it wont matter you will just be miserable for a few weeks
