Where the skys are so blue!
3 mile hike in? Check.

Big, Nasty marsh behind me? Check.

Acorns SPLAT!in on the palmettos in front of me? Check.

Sun rising behind me? Check.

Back cover that in no way interferes with my shooting? Check.

Stealthy entry and setup? Check.

Fresh mud rubs, scar, rooting, and wallowing activity? Check.

First time I've hunted the area this year? Check.

I think I'm gonna like this tree once the sun comes up. This section of WMA has a pretty good track record. There's something moving around already back in the marsh. Pig? Deer? Bigfeets? Who knows. Time shall tell.

I've got a front row seat to a beautiful sunrise if nothing else, and it's a clear enough nightI can make out the Great Hunter, Orion, while I wait for light. Thermacell is on and there are 2 Gatorades in my pack.

Gosh it's good to be hitting it hard for the first time this year! So blessed my ankle is just about knit back together.

So it begins...

I’m sitting in hunting area listening to the hogs roaring back in the swamp. I will let the Centaur and Treeshark eat if given the opportunity. I’m deer hunting but will pig kill for fun.

Hope you bust one!

I honestly usually have more luck stalking up on them than sitting in a tree. I'll hunt here for a while and then start slowly slipping back out.

Awesome thing about how hog season works here is that by the time October 15th rolls around, you've had a month and a half in the saddle and usually at least one critter down. Makes for a heck of a pregame warm-up.

Oddly enough though, I'm yet to see a hog. It's really cyclical. Every 5 years or so it seems they're so thick you can't get away from them. This is probably not one of those years.

They're probably still in the marsh. Acorns aren't right yet. All the scat I'm finding has marsh-grass and various berry seeds, roots, bug and crawfish shells, and other summer diet remains

It's a glorious morning though.

Honestly I hope they don’t come by. I spent all summer keeping them shot out of my area. Last thing I want during deer season is hogs. Acorns starting to drop and have several decent bucks on camera in the daylight so hoping for a crack at one of them. But I do love pulled pork though.

Hopefully you get on one for freezer meat.

Well, I heard some, but no cigar. Jumped a deer in a beauty berrythicket on the way out and have 3 trees prepped on the marsh edge now. Not a total waste.

Did just pick 5 little ticks off my legs though. Apparently it's time to retreat my pants.

The one sit I have done this year, I was covered up in hogs.
I got in the tree at 11:00am, and didn’t leave until dark. I had pigs within earshot the ENTIRE 8.5 hours. I saw pigs every half hour or so at about 100 yards, and had two spend 20 minutes or so underneath me.
It really tested my resolve to not shoot them. But, my out of state license is deer only.

They are fun, there’s tons here in lowcountry SC on wma. I was heading to my stand location a couple weeks ago and gave one some bow tox.
