Planned Trips?

Weather permitting I'm still going to try to do one night this weekend. I will take some pics of my setups and list what I bring. Only thing I haven't figured out what I want to do long term is my water filtration so since I'm just doing 1 night I'm gonna pick up a water bladder.

Did you go? I have a pump filter, in this heat you run out of water fast, at least I do

Have you looked at Steripens?

Nope, didn't make it up. There were thunderstorms all over and it was in the 90s out. I didn't feel like driving 2 hours to probably get soaked.

I did get my wife to agree to a spring scouting trip for turkey and a multiday turkey trip next spring after the baby comes so I have a little time to round out the rest of my equipment. I still might setup my hammock in my backyard one night just to try it out!

Fawns I'd like a pen for running day to day but I need to often fill something like a bladder to encourage myself to not stop drinking.

I'm going scouting again the fifteenth this time alone. I really want to buy a tarp shelter and a light bivy. Need to get a few other things first. I might see if I can make one out of an old tent fly.

I've got a new piece of gear to pick up at the post office. Its called a firefly. Its a mini gas lantern that runs on the same isobutane as my stove. I read it's got the ability to slightly warm a shelter too. I'm planning to do a lot of backcountry style hunts this fall. Probably quite a few one nighters. You really need it close to home to work out gear kinks.

I've got a gear list a mile long still of wants. I think at some point I may buy that 6000 bag also even though I said I wouldn't. Top of my list still too is a spotting scope

My gears been turning on gear also. Wish list is full! Good think my elk trip isn't till next Sept. But I do want a hammock to test out on some weekend deer hunts this year so I'll have everything fine tuned for when the real trip comes. I'm gonna get a warbonnet blackbird XLC with superfly tarp. Under quilt and top quilt will come later. I really want my kuiu icon pro 5200 now so I can use it to exercise with. Gonna be my 1st backpacking trip. Camp a lot but always by the truck so gear is definitely gonna change.

I got the war bonnet ridgerunner, lynx underquilt, mamba top quilt, and superfly tarp. I have the ridgerunner setup with the hiking pole mod so I don't need to carry extra poles. In my testing I love the entire setup so far. Just haven't had the time this year to get out and put it to the test but I might be able to do a backyard campout sometime in the next few days for testing. I went with the stone glacier sky archer 62000 for my pack. I'll have to put a full list together of what I've got so far and post. My biggest thing I still need to finalize is my water bladder/filtration. I'm 100% doing a 3-5 day turkey hunt next spring. Ultimate goal is an elk hunt. Possibly next fall, but if not the following. If anyone is looking for someone to go with let me know.

You live in NY right? I might be interested

I live in NJ. Can't do any backcountry camping here so I've been going to NY for that. I've been prepping my wife for 2 years that this elk trip has been coming lol

You and me both... I told mine if the day ever comes my employer allows 100% remote work that I want to move further west. I think I calculated Colorado is about 20 hours. I say there because it's one of the easiest states for non residents to get tags.

Nice. I've been working on my wife to open her mind to living elsewhere at some point, especially with our parents leaving the state afte retirement. She doesn't seem very open to it lol.

I have been focusing on Colorado for my elk trip due to the availability of non-resident tags as well.

I can attest that Colorado lives up to it's reputation when it comes to hunting opportunities. Uncle Sam gave me the opportunity to spend 3 hunting seasons at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, CO. That was some of the most fun hunting I've ever done. Make the time to go out there and chase the elk and muleys. There's even some MONSTER whitetail in CO that get overshadowed by the western game.
