Very new to saddle hunting just got my trophy line a few weeks ago been practicing on a heavy set of helium rangers sticks i had. Just practicing with those for now until i get a better set of sticks and possibly a platform. Im wondering what everyone's opinion on platforms. I seem to be very comfy and able to make most shots just standing on the top on the sticks. Any input and experience would be greatly appreciated in my decison making

You have a lot of options. You can DIY something but I would say if you are pretty new to saddle hunting and not really a DIY’er a manufactured platform would be your best bet. You have the predator platform from Tethrd, a couple different platforms from Out on a Limb, and the Lone Wolf Ambush just to name a few. Do some research and see which one makes the most sense to you.

I just tried out my new OOAL Ridge Runner and while i have nothing to compare it to, it seems really nice. The textured finish they use is incredibly grippy.

Also a newbie with this whole thing, but I just pulled the trigger on an OOAL mini stick and platform combo from the Classifieds. Should be here in a few days. I'll post back here when I get a chance to try it out.

If you're comfy with just the top of your stick, a ring of steps mounted just above your stick might be just the trick. I set mine up so I can put my feet on the steps and my heels on the top of the stick. Very comfy. If I need to pivot around the tree for a shot I use the ring of steps so I'm not putting side pressure on the stick.

I recently bought a set of 5 SquirrelSteps from Eastern Woods Outdoors. They might seem a little expensive at $25 each, but a set of 5 with a strap is still cheaper than a platform.

Its a sweet little combo

Feedback on the Shikar mini/scout platform:

I’m not the the best at the one stick method yet, but I managed to climb a couple trees with it and really liked it once I got in a groove. I’m currently using it with a webbing aider that I made, but I think it would do a lot better with a different aider. I believe I’ll be running it quite a bit this year for some deep hunts. It’s definitely something to look into!

New saddle hunting as well. Right now I am running the Preditor platform. I am a sitter and stannder so its a nice size to move around on. I also have been testing out the WildEdge steps set up as a ring around the tree.

Yea my predator will be in this week i was back and forth on the wild edge and the predator finally bite the bullet and bought the platform

Sweet. I know there is not one right answer for platforms but I dont think you can go wrong with the Predator. Only down side I has noticed in testing is out of the box unmodified it is a little slippery in the rain. I was having a little trouble getting it tight enough for side pressure and then read a post on here about the heel toe method. Now it rock solid even on a loose bark tree.
