To try to save money, I purchased a Hawk tree seat on sale and ordered climbing stick cleats from LW and secured them to the post. So far it works but a little unsteady. Any suggestions besides spend the money on predator? Has anyone else tried this method? or different?

I'm pretty sure there's some posts on here about this not being safe.

You’re gonna have $120 in a modified tree seat and it still won’t be any good. Save your money and get an actual platform. Probably not what you wanted to hear but there are at least 3 posts a month asking about the hawk seat. It just doesn’t work. Sorry man. You can modify the treesuit platform from treehopper to make it a little quieter and have a solid platform for around $100 if budget is tight.

Just want to reiterate what the above posts state. Im going to say it... there are so many different platform options today at different price points, that unless you get materials for free or super cheap, it isn’t cost effective to DIY a platform.

You can even climb with an aider and solo scout. I think @Redbeard does that. Then you save money.

I have tried it briefly and will try it some more

I just read a thread the other day on here with some good discussion about using a tree stand. Might be of interest, unless you're getting into this because you hike 5 miles to your hunting spots.
