Just an observation and suggestion for all site newbies and some oldies (you know who your are) that as the site has grown in membership, so has the fluff and constantly repeated questions with new threads instead of searching and using the 1,000s of existing threads / posts that usually already address all the questions asked. Please use the search feature for any of the following items as these horses have been beat to death. I'm not saying don't add to an existing thread or start a new one for a new concept or idea, but we never need another "Can I use my HSS rope for a tether" thread, for a perfect example.

If you start to ask a question or type one of these below, DO NOT, please search and you can read for months on the information already on the site (not an exhaustive list, but a few of the most common repeats) and you will keep the quality of information up instead of bogging down the site with more fluff:
  • Do use the LIKE button and hold the comments down for the me2 responses.
  • Posting "I've never used this before, but...". Just hit the delete and move on!
  • Posting "I'm new and don't know where to start"
  • Posting "Talk me into"
  • HSS anything
  • Hawk tree seat
  • Scentlok / ozone / scent control everything, including how to wash my saddle and ropes
  • How high should I hunt?
  • Archery everything ... arrows / bow tuning / broadheads / fletches / strings
  • Posting about completely unrelated product or topic to the thread...summit viper climbing turned into 1 stick and every other method, for example.
  • What is the best saddle / camo / backpack / boots / clothes / rope / ghillie suit / anything else
  • Rappelling ... everything
  • How do I climb with xxx?
  • 1 sticking / LWHC
  • WE steps ... how to anything
  • DRT/SRT
  • Canoes / kayaks / boats
  • Bikes / e-bikes
  • Deer carts
  • Doyle's hoist
  • Ropeman / Kong Duck / Safeguard / Lifeguard
  • Permethrin and Thermacells
  • Amsteel everything
  • Which size xxx should I get
  • Tether and linesman xxx
  • Carabiner xxx
  • Bow and gear hangers
When in doubt, search it out!

Another helpful tip... add site:saddlehunter.com behind any search words on Google to limit results to this site only. Comes in handy when trying to search a three letter topic such as DRT,SRT, etc.
So if you want to find DRT info here on Google type the following in Google search box: DRT site:saddlehunter.com

I kind of agree, but also disagree.

I use the search quite often and sometimes the existing threads do not contain the exact information I am after, or people go off on a bunch of useless irrelevant info/conversations and it causes a ton of reading that is not necessary.

So with that being said, I would say start with a search and if it doesn't suit your exact question/answer, start a new thread and make it more direct at what you are looking for. Some questions are more complex and direct, but for the basic ones with simple answers, I agree don't start a new thread.

After all, that's exactly what forums are for and things evolve over time so answers can vary.

If you woulda used the search feature you would have know that this topic has already been beaten to death......

I'm not very internet savvy but the search function on here or most sites will give more than enough info even if not exact thus will give me hours of information people are lazy!

Funny. I googled crochity old dude and this original post came up. (Sorry John, but that was too easy)

Hahahahahaha

I use the search. A lot. Mostly because even tho I follow threads and such I’ll read yet another new pair about what pack is best... and somewhere on that new topic (very sarcastic overtone implied) I’ll see something then the phone rings. Or something and ...POOF. It’s gone. And try as I might. Most of the time I can’t find it.

Yours fall into the entrainment category, and were not mentioned in my rant, keep posting brother!!.

Bump... just saw yet another new thread today for a gear strap suggestion - obviously didnt bother to read the 1000+ posts already out there on the subject.

Also a semi-relted suggestion for the mods - any post that contains the word "but" should automatically be deleted. Example for deletion = I've never rappelled before, but...". Perfectly fine = "I've never rappelled before and ...". Just a suggestion for improving the post quality!

Don’t you have better things to do than compiling lists of subjects you don’t want people to ask about? Also do you really want to delete posts just due to phrasing? I bet your the kind of person who only looks at post count to determine someone’s importance in your life lol.

It is kind of funny to see someone come to a discussion board and discourage discussion.......
