Pods For A Cause (milkweed)

I wish I would have had the time to pick more this year because it is all gone now that it is 100°+.
I have a gallon ziplock of fluff, which should last me through the season with a bit to spare after I give some to the local guys I already promised some to.

I separated as much of the seeds as possible and spread about 7 pods worth of seeds in the wildflower garden in the backyard. Maybe I’ll have some pop up next year!

I'd like to get on the list if possible. I'm also working on an alternative for guys like me who don't have any milkweed growing around them (at least I can't find any).

Got ya.
I will mention this...
I will fill orders in the order that guys have contacted me. At this point, I'm confident that I can handle everyone's requests so far.
C'mon ma nature...get these pods ripe so I can pick.

Not a big deal. I have your handle name on my list, so when the time is right, I will PM you for shipping and paypal info.

All you guys that placed orders...watch your PMs in a few weeks. I will be contacting you when pods are ripe.

Thanks for the info. I guess we will just have to keep tabs on the pods. Hopefully not too much longer. I'll drop this thread a comment when they are looking good in WI

Here’s a dumb question. If I google milk weed plants, it’s the same dumb weed that’s growing in part of my yard from time to time.

If someone wanted to plant some of these things. What specifically should one buy?

Thanks

Now then, get your equipment--your quiver and bow--and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.

I never needed to think about buying the stuff to plant. I could probably fill up many 5 gallon buckets with pods growing within a few miles of my home.

Pods are popping.
I drove past one of my patches today and was surprised to see how many pods were split open and blowing floaters.
I will be picking this weekend.

I should have brought a 2nd bucket!
This 5 gal bucket full is a tiny fraction of what was available to pick. When these are dry, I will start shipping.

Here are a few pics photos from this morning.
I'm not sure what kind of bugs they are, but I need to deal with them before I ship. I don't want to transport a pest. I will bake the pods or maybe do a soak in permethrin. Any suggestions?

I thought you were not supposed to pick them until they have some brown splotches on them? The patch I have found up the road looks like those, still full green. I'm playing the annual game of waiting till the right time and still before they are mowed down.

Did you see the pic of the pods that are already split? That happened almost over night.
I picked a couple experimental pods about a week ago and they dried out nicely and produced prime floaters. A lot of the ones I picked today are turning colors so I'm confident that they are ready.
I'm not done picking either. If these don't season well, then I will still have thousands to choose from.
I will sample these before I ship them. If they aren't what I feel is what I would use for myself, then I won't send them.
Prime floaters are fantastic. Mediocre floaters give a false impression of how good milkweed really is.
I won't ship garbage.

I had 2 patches located this summer and have admired them from afar. When I drive by one on Saturday, there he was again in all his John Deere glory. He bush hogged right over the patch again just like last year. But the second patch was safe and I was able to get these pods this morning. Only 2 plants out of about 25 had pods, so I left the other one alone. They also had the same red bugs on them.
