Less. Only killed two last year, but one was a decent 9 point. Work is just crushing me this year and it looks like it’s going to get even more hectic. Boo.

Yes sir, praying for your safety. God bless you and your family and your team. Thank you for your service. No words to describe this but God bless you.

It can only go up unless I literally don't step foot into the woods. Had a baby a few months before the start of last season. Add work, COVID, school and that adds up to only hunting a handful of times. Picked up a crossgun for this season to supplement my compound. Also added a 450 Bushmaster to my arsenal. Now to just find the deer.

More. Knowledge and skill take time. This will be my 6th year getting better each year.

1st year, I got my bow in the last 2 weeks of season. Up in my summit climber, I shot a doe quartering to me. perfect placement, but still a poor shot choice. I went looking for her too soon and lost her.

2nd year, I shot 7 arrows and harvested 5 doe. I got busted a lot, sometimes from long distances. By the end of season, the local herd was on edge.

3rd year, learned some about wind and scent control. Passed on the does. I shot 2 arrows and harvested (2) 2 year old bucks. I got busted much less.

4th year. Took 3 shots at (3) 3 year old bucks. All 3 went high, love that adrenaline! Occasionally got busted.

5th year. Dedicated much of the season to helping wife and 3 daughters learn their way. Wife got 2 out of her ghost blind. My 14 year old passed a few does and missed a young 6 point due to the adrenaline dump. One of my 10 year old twins got a young 4 point from a surround view blind. This was the first year for all of them. Thank you crossbow! I hunted less than I planned, but what a great trade. I passed on several of deer, including a few 2 year olds and 1 super nice 3 year old. I nearly got a shot at a boss, he left me at 35 yds. to kick a subordinate bucks butt. I hunted about 10 times and never sent an arrow. Seldom got busted.

I'm optimistic about this year. In the first years I never saw a decent buck. Now I know that there are many. I have more stands and prepped trees than before. I have learned some of the things that the deer do and don't do on our property. Our mistakes are the only thing we can truly call our own. I haven't made them all yet, but I have made a lot. Good luck everyone..

Wow....I wish my first 5 seasons went that well!
I try to forget anything about those first years....total embarrassment

Don’t tell me that, @Weldabeast …trying to stay optimistic here.

I don't know for sure but I think location and the way that locations land use rules are written play a huge part....I'm not saying anything negative/taking anything away from @NATHAN ....if where he's located a new hunter is able to accomplish all that, that is awesome!
Where I live I think u would be hard pressed to find someone new to it all that is able to have such a good season.....I want to hang out with the guy that is able to do all that is such a short amount of time that is in this area...I would definitely learn some stuff I don't know.

Sounded like private land as well, so that helps minimize some unknown factors.

If I was to be able to do it over again I would have a saddle and a tether and hunt off the ground for the first 3 or 4 years.....I waisted lots of time picking and climbing trees when I should have been more concentrated on learning the woods and how the animals use them....just remember, u only really learn from something u fail at....if it works out right everytime u don't learn nothing

You guys are correct, I am spoiled. It is about 140 acres, 2/3 ag and the rest wooded. I have been obsessed with improving the habitat and the hunt-ability of it for the last 4 years. I eat, sleep, and drink deer hunting 365 a year.

Took last year off except for 3 weekends of muzzleloader which was a bust. Remodeled kitchen and moved a bathroom. Told my wife will be hunting hard this year

Last year was my worst year ever! I was skunked.
This year can only improve. My wife on the other hand, she will never duplicate last year’s success of 3 Bucks and 1 doe. Her season will be less than!!!!!:)
