I use an EZV, so I’m good and don’t have to worry about pins. However I noticed a flaw in your bet. If I’m getting a $1000 for a 20 yard shot, why even attempt a 60 yard shot for the same money?

Your confidence in the EZV ranging support has my wheels turning on another thought experiment for all the ezv users...

It's not a flaw. The question is designed to get a specific mode of responses. Obviously, if you want to be cute you can play the price is right. I'm asking folks to think about how far they're willing to shoot to win 1000 bucks, while having skin in the game.

You're asked randomly, if you'll shoot one arrow for 1000.00 at 50 yards. Would you do it? There's no guarantee you'll be asked a second time for a shorter distance if you say no. What is the distance, when this random question is asked of you, will you put your money on the tailgate?

I love my EZ-V but I don't shoot 50 yds . . .ever. Here in northern Michigan I rarely set up where I could even begin to get an arrow through 50 yds of woods, 40 is my absolute top end with 20-25yds being my preferred setup. Not taking that bet myself.

Are we talking hunting conditions in the woods or out in the clear no wind ?

I'm not one for dares and bets, but if I had to choose between my slug gun and bow for a standing offhand shot, I'd grab the bow 40yds and in. I'd strongly consider the bow to 50. I'd be happy to grab it out of a dusty case. I would never chance a hunt with a safe queen.

This is the point.

You pick up your bow. You don't get to tune it, check pins, any of that.

Yes, the exact distance is known/calibrated to what you had your pins set for the last time you shot your bow.

The exercise is to find out how confident everyone is in picking up a cold bow and flinging an arrow.

You'll have to go to the range once a year to get a good idea. This is just a thought exercise.
50 yards?

but like nutter said, when the pressure is on and I’m in a tree twisted around in my saddle with one good foot supporting my body at a weird angle to get a shot and the deer is approaching and my adrenaline is dumped into my veins… not a chance. $1000, 50 yards at the range… I’d be your huckleberry.

That’s what I like to hear!

Can you add another option of less that 10 yards. Seriously. Let me explain myself. I started shooting an ezv. I'm not totally confident in it yet. I have zero issues with the supplied target or a 3d target but because your 6 inch bullseye isn't what I'm used to looking at for size, I'd likely miss.

That's why I've always kinda ignored the ez v chatter. What if I wanna shoot a really big deer? Or a really, REALLY small one? Or bigfoot? Or that squirrel on a stump? I got up early and walked way out here to sling errors and by golly I'm going home with fewer than what I brung.

I enjoyed the exercise as I really had to think and evaluate my skill. I voted 30 because I view 6" as a very large target. I like the line from the movie The Patriot "aim small miss small" with that mentality I only shot 2" targets and expect my groupings of 3 arrows to stay inside. So I feel confident in 6" at 30 yards even after a long vacation from my bow.

I would go 20 as I don't feel confident if I have not shot some. That distance would easily double if I have been shooting regularly.

One of my favorite lines in one of my favorite movies. I agree with every thing you said. Also, I usually have about a 3 month hiatus from shooting every winter as there are no ranges nearby where I live and my 1st shot of the year at 20 yards is always a bullseye. When you have been shooting for close to 45 years it just comes natural.
Also. If my bow was tuned when I stored it in a cool dry place for the winter why would it be out of tune when I pick it back up in the spring?

Out of curiosity, why do you shoot that first shot at 20 yards?

Sorry I spit my coffee out reading really big deer. Followed by bigfoot. Since nutter does not believe in Scentlok, Hecs, or fancy camo, why would he believe the hype of the EZV. Or that bigfoot exist.
