Noob question —

Is there a preferred / recommended / safe way in which to position the carabiners on the lineman belt and tether?
  • On the lineman belt I have the gate facing down. Wide side towards me. Narrow side towards the tree.
  • On the tether I have the gate facing up / towards me. Wide side towards me. Narrow side towards tree.
Hopefully I'm making sense.

Yep. Whatever you do, do it the same way every time. That way, if you do something different, it won't "feel" right.

For me, my gate is always facing me and the lock always falls closed. This way, I can visually verify that the gate is closed and locked. This isn't the only way to do it but like I said, whatever you do, do it the same way everytime.

I started with the gate away from me thinking less chance of it getting bumped. Not the case (for me at least) so I switch to the gate facing in towards me. I had my sticks, etc. bump into them once in awhile. Even though they are they are closed and locked I just decided to switch it around.

On my linemans belt I have the gate towards me as I find it easier to clip in with my fingers and thumb holding the gate open pressing into my palm. I then screw the lock towards me.
As far as my tether goes the top of the biner is towards me with the gate face up. Then screw down (towards me) to lock it. Easy for me to tell I'm clipped in and when I was first doing research on saddle hunting I watched a video and whoever it was( I wanna say Garret from Doy Spprtsman) said a quote that cemented in my brain. "Screw down before you 'screw up'." I took that and utilize it when clipping in.
