Post season scouting, How's it going?

had a huge kick in the boys today. I went up to one of my best locations that I wanted to refine for this year. It was freshly posted. It was state forest last season. I walked the perimeter, and whoever bought it didnt buy much. Maybe 80 acres. But it held some of my best spots and some of my best bucks were on cam from in there. O well. gotta scout harder now
You may want to verify that it has legally become private land. This wouldn’t be the first time that someone has decided to claim a great spot on public by falsely posting it. I don’t often hear of small parcels of publicly owned property being sold off. Is there road frontage on this piece?

Unfortunately it's definitely private

Tried a new spot today. I know a big 10 came from this area last season, but it had pretty heavy human sign. Lots of cams and a few old shacks illegally on state forest. Found a few thrown away latex gloves too. Saw this gem and realized saddle hunting sucks and this is the way 1000020607.jpg

Hey man…… that was state of the art tree stand hunting in 1982!!!

Gorgeous day in the PA Mtns. There was a spot I overlooked last year. A giant 10 was killed last year on private that came from this location on public. Found some great bedding in downfall, and a highway trail through it to put a cam on this season.
Great find. View attachment 100886
Do you know if those deer migrate down out of the mountains during the winter months in PA, and yard up somewhere, they do up here, just curious..

No ider. Don't run cams after season. Too depressing to see how many are killed. But theres lots of poo poo so I'd say they're still around

got about 5mi in this morning. took advantage bigly of the cool front that moved in yesterday and enjoyed the cool crisp morning. mostly i walked a swamp edge in an area i've scouted a couple weeks ago and more thoroughly walked out about 3-4 drainages that cut from the swamp up into the flatwoods. each carried a decent concentration of rubs and current tracks, and really they are about the only thing terrain-wise breaking up the monotony in a major way. i bumped a deer at the far edge of my loop back and got a good look around there, too. that's always a good sign.

Im near the tail end of my post season scouting and prep. Its been fairly productive and im excited about better understanding of a few of my primary hunting areas. Yesterday I got out for a 9 mile loop. The pinnacle of yesterdays work was finding a shed from a big buck ive been learning about, checking a camera that had soaked for a year with lots of good buck pics, and jumping a moose at thirty yards - we scared the hell out of eachother. The bad news was that someone else found my camera and has several cameras not far from where mine was. I may go back and pull that camera in a couple days so that Im not providing intel to this cat. I've already learned what I need to from prior years on this cam, theres no reason to help this guy out. I'm also wanting to go back and search for the other half of this deers rack. The nymph ticks are absolutely horrid here this year. As the warm weather rolls in, im gonna roll out and leave the ticks and the deer to thier own devices.
