Post season workout encouragement thread! 2022 EDITION!!!!!

You guys probably thought I gave up, eh? Been busier than heck with a 11 month old and we’re selling our house. I’m still somehow treading water with this training. I ran 5 miles on Saturday and felt amazing. Best I’ve felt on a run in a long time. I also goofed up when I set up my race day and I figured out that my actual race is gonna be July 3rd. That would be the end of the 13 week training.
I hope everyone else is still out there crushing it on the exercise front. It’s starting to get really nice outside so don’t hesitate to take up rucking, trail running, biking, walking, etc if you’re new to this. It’s never to late to get out there.
I’m hoping to get up north soon to scout some land I got permission to hunt this winter. Sounds like there’s some really nice deer there and I’d be the only one there for archery season. Can’t wait.

Way to grind man! Glad you’re sticking it out and enjoying it. I have an 11 month as well and time management has been tricky to say the least with Turkey season as well. I ended up getting some 3AM runs in before hitting the woods lol.

I’m gonna plan my run for late June, not sure of the exact day yet.

3AM!!!? Holy moly dude that is awesome. I kind of have been a baby about the temp in the morning so I’ve been running in the evening. Low 30’s isn’t fun to cross train in. Once it warms up this week I’ll go back to morning workouts again. You can’t beat getting it out of the way and having the rest of the day to spend with the family.

Yea I agree it’s the best to get up and get it done so you’ve got the full day ahead. Those evening runs are pretty awesome too when the weather is just right tho.

Get some tights, gloves and a breathable beanie and it makes it easy! I regularly run in freezing temps before dawn and After the first mile you almost get hot.

A few years back I just made a decision to never let weather dictate my day outside. Whether it’s hunting, fishing, running, or whatever. I’ve ran in what I’ve temps, snow and ice storms, tornado warnings, and 120 degree heat index. Once you’ve made the decision before hand then it’s easier to do cause you’re not laying in bed at 4 AM listening to the thunder wondering whether or not you should run. You’ve already decided to run well beforehand.

Only one there? Sounds dangerous…..I‘d be willing to come along and be your “safety observer”. :grimacing:

Nice work . I went back to the gym , so im paying for functional fitness you can do at home. Nice to just show up early and get a good workout in- i missed it, keeps things fresh without staring at my office....
Cuts into the hunting budget but i really dont "need" anything other than tags.

Haha. Some clarification, I’d be the only one bow hunting. I guess this guy and some relatives gun hunt but they don’t archery hunt at all. Also someone lives on the property.

Yeah I need to man up. I used to run all the time in the middle of winter, rain, heat, wind. Running tights, under armour top, hat, gloves all that crap was the norm. That’s a real good way to look at it though. Thankfully the mornings here in the summer only get to be about 75-80 max with the sun coming up.

Oddly enough my favorite time to run is in the middle of a rain storm or thunderstorm. Like 65-75 degrees spring thunderstorm with sheets of rain. I get that “ Pre Game Ray Lewis ” kind of pumped.

Here is my update. Had some setbacks due to time and other things but still working on it.

5k at 29:38 currently but still includes some walking. Plan is 5k no walking the first week of June.

Hey breaking 30 on a run/walk 5k is still impressive! Keep up the good work, you got this.

I had a bad week last week. Just didn't feel like doing anything. I got back to it Monday night. Swam 1600 yards with a 2:40/100 yd pace. Got on the bike for an hour last night. Big company event after work today, so I'll being doing 12 oz curls. Tomorrow back in the pool and a 5 mile run on Friday. Need to get back to lifting...

Great work @GreginPA. Pushing myself to not stop and walk no matter how slow I have to go is what I have to do to build distance. For me it's a mental thing. If I stop once to walk during a run I'm more likely stop and walk again.

Color me jealous. My distance progress was going well (up to 10 miles in March). And then then next run, an easy pace 4 or 5 miles, my left calf knotted up. Some kind of muscle strain/tear. Took 6 weeks off. This week I ran a mile and stopped. Felt ok so ran another mile. A couple of days later I was feeling better so I decided to go 3 miles. Just past the 2 mile mark the calf locked up again. Not sure what to do. Going to Physical Therapist tomorrow to see if they can help me.

yeah the mental thing is hard. Depending on my mood I try to get lost in a podcast but if I'm struggling I need some heavy metal \m/ to keep me going.

I'm happy with my progress. According to "the internet" I'm about average for my age of 43.

Best wishes for your appointment

Take my advise with a grain of salt but I would make sure you’re running in good running shoes. Not just cross training shoes from Joe’s sporting goods, go to a running shoe store that will fit you in good shoes for your form. Also make sure you’re stretching your calfs on a wall or curb or something. Warm those muscles up really good before you even start running, and also staying hydrated helps as well. Just my two cents based on my amateur running experience.

Had never run more than 2 miles at one time ever and that was back in high school. Decided about a month ago to try a 5k on the treadmill. Did my third one yesterday at 31:10 but no walk breaks. It may be good for building endurance and cardio but there is something decidedly wrong with you freakin weirdo's that like running long distances.

Hey at least you’re at least trying it! Running definitely isn’t for everyone, just like swimming isn’t for everyone or biking. I like running because I don’t have to think about it while I’m doing it. I don’t have to think about the what rep I’m on or have any special equipment(except a good pair of running shoes). You just put your shoes and clothes on and walk out the door and start running. Swimming is god awful for me, I find it very boring unless there’s a beach involved. Biking is about as close as I can get to running that’s lower impact. The only thing about biking that sucks is that stupid seat rides up my rear end. By the end of the ride by butt is killing me more than my legs. Also you wouldn’t believe the wildlife I see on my morning runs. I see deer all over! Country roads are great in the summer to scope out the deer in the fields.

Wife decided yesterday's workout should be on the 22's format using burpees and DB squats. I used 50# x 2. Cant say I would encourage that one for sane people. Straight suck fest.

Lets see some video (proof) of all these workouts HAHAHA

I hit the gym at 5:00AM everyday before work...ATM I'm figuring out the rest I need between squat and mountain bike days.

If you want to watch a video of my slow a** lumbering down the road I can make one lol. Or watch me attempt to jump rope for my insanity workouts. Ok that might be highly entertaining from a comedic standpoint haha.

This one here is doing poorly on working out. I can't seem to work it into my day.
Good on you folks sticking with it!
