Post season workout encouragement thread! 2022 EDITION!!!!!

Love the Murph!one of my goals for 2021 is to work back into doing it once a week. One of the best workouts there is!
This sounds awesome. I am working towards something of this nature. I have literally started a body weight training.

Breakfast is the most important meal. My girlfriend has a Masters in nutrition. Two pints of water at wake up, then you can have coffee. The body needs protein out of the gate. I force myself to make two eggs, maple turkey bacon and half an avocado....with hot sauce of course. Takes less than 5 minutes. I love regular bacon, but that maple turkey stuff is good and takes 1/4 of the time. Convenience is key.

Lots of people can’t handle carbs. My bud at work has lost 15# in three weeks by cutting carbs alone. He metabolizes ALOT slower than I do.

I ran a couple miles with my daughter last week. Trying to stay up on my push-ups. Won‘t be long it‘ll be skimboard/surf season. Then it’s soft sand sprints and paddling a few days a week.
All I know is my dad never eats breakfast and he's about the healthiest fella I know. If I got half his genes I figure there's a 50% chance what works for him will work for me.

I used to not eat breakfast when I was younger. I let some well meaning people tell me breakfast is the most important meal of the day and started eating breakfast. I gained weight and didn't feel as well over a year. Back to no breakfast for me.

I typically don’t eat breakfast as well, if I do then I try to eat strictly protein. I think high carb breakfasts are the issue.

I don’t think there is a one size fits all for diet/programs. My wife has to have breakfast. I’m fine only having water and coffee early in the day.

Luckily, science is advancing and you can get lots of blood work/tests to see what your body needs/responds well too.

Viome is a cool test for seeing what foods your body responds well to.

Also, an infrared sauna has DRAMATICALLY reduced my inflammation levels. Changed my life. I feel way better at 40 than I ever did during my 30s.

One other thing I’ll mention is Ben Greenfield’s book, Boundless. He can kind of sound like a pompous prick on podcasts, but I do find it interesting how he’s basically used his body as a human guinea pig for all sorts of life/body hacks. The book covers just about every aspect of health and you can pick and choose the aspects you’d like to try out. An interesting read.

Just did 2 miles in the rain climbing hills. Up and down, up and down. All on a side slope to really give myself the best chance of twisting an ankle.

Considering joining planet fitness again to have access to a stairmaster. Only problem is it's a half hour drive. Still may be worth doing to hit it twice a week and really kick my own azz.

I cut out breakfast and tend do do more of an intermittent fasting type eating schedule and feel a lot less sluggish, tired, etc. throughout the day. I was once told "breakfast is the most important meal of the day." Was a campaign by sugary breakfast cereal moguls (unsure if that's a fact). Eating when hungry like our stone and stick throwing ancestors seems a lot more natural to me, makes me feel better and has worked pretty well keeping the lbs off.

It amazes me how good one can feel one day working out and how ****ty the next. I just got done for today and felt fat and weak. My core needs work, lots of work. I know if i keep at it the results will come.

Since January 15, I’ve cut out sugar and flour. I’ve also been doing alternate day fasting. On Jan 15 I was 242 lbs, this morning I weighed in at 216 lbs.

Dr. Jason Fung has some good YouTube videos explaining how it works.

As far as exercise, I have an assortment of videos I use at home and mix it up with some yoga to try and stay flexible in my old age....

Yeah you’re never going to feel 100% all the time. I dealt with that when I ran in HS, some days you felt like a super hero and other days you just didn’t have it in the tank.

So I have 4 days left for phase 1 of my workout plan. Insanity will be in the bag this Sunday(fit test and one makeup workout). Phase 2, I start Insanity Asylum next Monday. From what I’ve read, that one is an absolute scorcher but it’s only 30 days. Phase 3 is when the 12 week training starts for the half marathon. That will be a hybrid of Asylum and running. I’m very excited to step up my game and start running again.
To tie this back to deer hunting, I was able to go out with my dog in the deep snow to scout public land. It was nice being able to cover more ground without resting on every log. I even found some nice rubs to boot.

You will be fine with asylum if you made it through red insanity. Good job getting through it. I am also looking forward to better weather and the snow melting so i can get outside and do stuff.

Even when I was athletic, nothing kicked my butt like the mountains. A week of hills and I was in my best condition ever.

Bonus: the "perfect workout"....drag heavy (non-human) carcass for miles over mtns.

Great job man, keep grinding!

Save me some googling, please. What's the theory behind the sauna?

Guy I bought my house from had one in the basement, but took it when he left. Always wondered what the hubbub was about since then.

Something about sweating out the toxins or whatever. I don’t know a lot about them but they sure are relaxing to be in.
