Post season workout encouragement thread! 2022 EDITION!!!!!

I’m in! I have slacked so much this year, last March I ran a 5k which I usually do every year. There’s three I do in March which preceded a St Pats parade which were always fun. Plenty of Guinness to drink afterwards. Now I skipped the running part and just drinking the Guinness. Last few years I’ve ran a lot and mix with going to the gym. I’ve totally abandoned it all. Eating like **** has become an almost daily thing. I’m not dining at the Golden Arches everyday but have not been really concerned with how my belly has exceeded my current pant size. My last hunt will be tomorrow for deer and looking forward to starting my “diet” Monday. Usually stick to south beach kinda eating, no carb to low carb and lay off the sugar. Meal prep and start running again. Taking it slow one day at a time. I ran a half marathon three yrs ago and want to run another hopefully they start doing it again this year. I’ll train for it anyways, would love to run a full before I can’t anymore. We’ll see, thanks for posting this thread. ACCOUNTABILITY!
I got caught in that rut too. Was going to the gym 3-4 times a week with the wife. Gym closes and I’m back to the “go to work, come home, drink a beer, eat dinner, watch TV, go to bed” pattern. I feel a million times better waking up early and pounding out my workout. I’m planning on doing a half marathon this summer, probably an unofficial one. Just remember, it’s 80% mental and 20% physical. It’s go time!

I ran cross-country and track in middle school and high school, continued track into junior year of college (D3, nothing special) and ran the baltimore marathon 12 or 13 years ago (a bet, undertrsined, finished... barely) so I have some idea what I'm getting in to but it's been a while, we shall see how quickly I bounce back. If you've run 10 miles before a half will be no problem, running is something that your body gets back into pretty easily (but I'm guessing you knew that already). Want to set a start date/date range for the unofficial saddlehunter off-season inaugural half marathon? I'm in to do it the same day/week, honor system make your own course. Prizes will be the same as the entry fee- nothing!

If you’re game to do it, then I am too. This might be pretty far out but the weekend of June 20th would be my tentative race day. I haven’t run 10 miles since the summer of 05/06 so hopefully I’m not getting in over my head. Pencil me in haha!

Love the idea of this thread... post season in the covid era doesn't leave much room for fitness... I could go walk the hills in southern MN but I dont like to spend time I can use to make up to the wife for hunting season by just starting a different activity where I disappear on Saturday mornings for a few hours... hard to build equity that way.... we actually just got a treadmill with ifit and honestly I was kinda placating the wife getting it as I've always like running outside more... buuutt... I've actually really liked the programs and training sessions and it's easy to put in 2-3 miles during lunch since I work from home... id also be lying if I didn't admit that my ankle and knee take less stress with treadmill... my 24 y.o. mind hates recognizing my 36 y.o. body...anyway...really happy with that purchase and will likely put 12-15 miles on a week on that machine... getting excited for turkey season now!!

I've been trying to get in shape since the start of 2020 and I did pretty good and lost 30 pounds until Thanksgiving and Christmas and put 10 back on. I despise running but and working myself up to do a 5k without walking any part of it.

If anyone has beginner kettlebell info they could share I'd be interested in that.

I’m 2 for 2 the last two days hitting the gym after night turn doing 1hr of cardio (elyptical &treadmill) and light weight workout upper body one day lower next.

I’ve heard the kettle bells are an intense work out but I’ve never used them

My wife joined the beachbody app,it's about $130.a year i think. We bought some weights and elastic bands and both of us can use the app on our phones. So we work out at home in front of the tv. They offer a bunch of different programs with different instructors so there is a good chance you can find one you like.
I love the fact that we can just work out at home,it saves a ton of time. Some programs are 30 mins and some are more.

Momentum is huge in working out. Just keep up the good work and get into a rhythm. It gets to a point where you find it weird not to work out.

They have a really nice collection of workouts. I will say this though, the shakeology stuff and the “coaches” are ANNOYING! Always trying to sell you crap you don’t need. I just do the workouts, my wife cooks pretty healthy, and I make my own shake. They have enough of my money lol.

100% agree. We dont buy any of the products.

Same here the workout videos/programs have always turned me off because of the sales pitches or the "peppiness" of the leaders. I found that just writing down the exercises as a set and then following that on my own was more my style back in the day, clearing off the old junky treadmill so I can run at home when I've got my kids here and can't leave the house is today's anti-excuses project. Over the last few years it turned from a clothes hanger to a place where long term storage (like Christmas decorations) got stacked on top of it. Can't use it if it's buried...

Hey everyone,

I started a page entitled: Gutshot Fitness and a program called: "Lose Your Gut for the Rut".

I am going to be putting up free workouts every weekday in February focusing specifically on fitness for the mobile hunter. Nothing fancy, no specific equipment or special machines required. Just you, something "kind of heavy" and your bow.

These workouts are designed primarily for those looking to get back in shape and enjoy the great outdoors with more energy, stamina and skill than they had before. They can be made more challenging, or scaled at your own pace and discretion.

There is no cost. But, if the program does help you and you can send me before/after pictures and a testimonial that would be greatly appreciated!

Here are the social links:

Whatever you do for fitness, go for it, have some fun and take one step forward every day!

I don’t own one but I wish I owned stock in that company about a year ago to the day. I said to my wife after that dumb commercial came out, “we should invest a bunch of money in that company while their value is down.”

My wife wanted one. So I bought one... She is on it atleast an hour a day. Atleast I can buy more hunting crap now...lol

That won't be a problem for me,no network TV here and no party with covid.
I just came back in from a 2 hour cross country ski, that will count for todays workout. The snow is just about perfect in upstate NY right now.

I’m a pretty big football fan so I’ll be watching like normal. It’ll be me and my wife for our “party” but I’m definitely getting super bowl food.
