Post surgery knee (ACL) replacement picture

Supposedly I had no lateral support..or something along those lines. I don't know why the cut was so long...I have like six holes and one long cut. It's getting better though.
How's rehab going? I assume you're into that pretty good by now. I hated the part where they extended your leg and pushed down on the knee to get it a little hyperextended. Wasn't crazy about riding the bike either.

PT is going well. The bike isn’t my favorite either. Not able to make a full rotation yet, but bending the knee is getting better. Thanks for asking. I do several exercises at home too.

That's good to hear. Stick with it, don't get discouraged if you plateau a bit and you keep from getting to 100% right away. I think that's normal but with time you will get to 100%. Don't sell the ebike, you will use it again!!!

I agree with @sureshot ,odd that you got the long scar. I had my Acl re-done with my own hamstring tissue and my meniscus sown up and i had three little holes. Recovery took a good while because of the meniscus repair, with just the ACL you should heal faster. Do the exercises and good luck!

Saw the surgeon today and the reason for the long scar was that instead of an ACL from a cadaver, he took one of my tendons from my right knee and grafted it into my ACL. Hince the long scar.

Ah, i see. For mine the surgeon went up the side of my thigh and peeled of enough hamstring to make an ACL replacement by folding it over on itself. I picture an asparagus peeler going up my leg ,haha.
I was undecided if i should use a donor ligament or my own parts. I figured since i am not a donor i would use my own. The surgeon said a young person should use a donor ligament, but at my age it didn't make much of a difference.
Keep up the PT and exercises at home. The one thing i wish i had done after my surgery is to really focus on the repaired side when working out. I did exercises for both legs, but the repaired one is still a little smaller diameter than the other.

yea, I've lost muscle mass on my right calf and thigh. I've been in martial arts for 20+ years and my legs were naturally defined from years of kicking and whatnot. I now need to recondition my right leg to get it back where it was before my injury.

Makes you want slap somebody doesn’t it. That’s the way rehab works. They get you to levels. Then they make sure you can fully extend your leg. It already feels like a hot burner in your knee. But, when they extend that thing, essentially ripping the scare tissue formed from the surgery and rehab, there’s a level of psycho in it for everybody.

Today on the bike I felt like I could do a full rotation...NOPE!!! God that hurt!!! I hope I didn't hurt my knee again...jeez.

I had the same worry multiple times. It hurts so bad you are forced to think you did by default.

Wait until they work you out like that, then lay you on your belly with your knee right at the edge of a bench. They let it hang like that for 10-15 minutes. Not the jolting of pain you feel when doing things like riding. But, an ache that hurts to your hips and toes in that leg.

I used to call the PT place 'The House of Pain'. No other way to describe it, you know it's going to hurt in that damned place. I felt lucky though, the shoulder therapy guys were in serious pain, made mine look like a nothing.

I'm guessing you had the same as me then - the patellar tendon graft. It connects the knee cap to the tibia. It's 27 mm wide, and they take the middle 9 mm of tendon, I believe. I think the patellar tendon cut hurt worse than the actual ACL repair.

Keep at it, it takes time. I think it was 9 months before I was able to touch my heel to my butt.

I liked to see the guys in there whining about the pain and making little to no progress in their recovery. It helped motivate me to keep at the stretching and taking the pain.
