Pre Season Summer Scouting

Contrary to what most others tout, my best bucks have been taken not as a result of post or pre season scouting. They have all come as a result of in season scouting and seizing the moment on the right sign.

I'm interested how you scout in-season without blowing out areas. I attempt to find in/out routes to trees in areas unused by deer, so I don't see any sign going in or out to adjust my spots.
Also, this is my first season in a saddle, and I'm looking to be more mobile for afternoon hunts than sitting in fixed trees. But unsure how to scout on the way with causing a disturbance.

I wish I was a headlight on a north-bound train

It’s a learned skill honestly. Keep pushing and go with your gut. Don’t find sign and mark to hunt later. Hunt it right then.

Agreed. Last year I had hunted the morning shift, then scouted my way out using a new route and found a hot scrape and a fresh line of rubs - went back the next weekend and killed em

It is a combination of knowing the land by maps or in person from previous hunts and a gut feeling honestly. I have learned that when the voice in my head says stop or hunt here, I listen to it. As far as blowing out an area, I do not consider that a problem unless I actually jump the buck or the wind shifts significantly as I am going in to look around. I have walked in at midday or mid-afternoon, left, and then come back and taken many bucks based on the fresh sign I found on the same day. For the last one, I got in the tree only to find him bedded 60 yds away. If deer in the Southeast left an area due to a single or even a few encounters or disturbances, they would be left with nowhere to go. Folks get too afraid of spooking a deer that they limit their own ability to take them, in my opinion.
